Mpg

Hello all!
I am very very new to the diesel worl with the purchase of my new F250. I went with the tuscany conversion package. It is one awesome truck. I was originally under the impression that the gas mileage was around 16mpg. I am only getting around 12 now with about 1500 miles on the truck. I do a lot of highway miles and really want to get the most mpg I can.

What is normal for the 6.0 without any chips or programmers and with the Banks cat back dual exhaust?

Just trying to figure out if it will get better with break in or am I stuck.

Thanks

My truck was getting about the same mileage as yours when it had 1500 miles on it. Now my truck has 2400 miles and its getting around 15 mpg. I'm sure your mileage will improve with time.

I thought there was some increase after some miles went on it. I was hoping that I heard correctly. I will be at 2500 by next week. Thanks

I have a 2005 F250 FX4 and I get around 15mpg/city and about 17/hwy.
I have right over 20,000 miles and I think that is about a good as it gets.
I have changed my fuel filters about every 10,000 miles, oil every 5,000, and have changed my air filter at about 10,000 miles.
I try to leave about 65 psi in my tires at all times (stock tires).
I live in south Louisiana and it is hot down here 10 months out of the year but during the winter months when the temp stays in the 40's the gas mileage goes up around a 1.5 to 2 mpg.
I do have a programmer and I have tried it with and without the programmer and the gas mileage is about the same.
Hope this helps, kinda of disappointing but they are very heavy trucks.

I am used to getting the 15-17 mpg in my Tahoe so I was just hoping to stay even.
I have heard that some of the programmers can give extra MPG - anyone had luck with that. With only 1500 miles on the truck - I dont want to risk the warranty issues right yet but I will soon as the 30k warranty will last me about 9 months.

I have a Superchips 1704A I believe. It did not give me much of a boost in mpg but it did in horse power.

It has been debated on here before that the dealership can see if you have one. The Superchip that I have has 4 settings. One of them is the stock setting.
I had to put my truck back to the stock setting about 3 months ago for a reflash at the dealership. They did not say anything to me about having a chip or the programmer did what I thought it would do and erase any "footprints" of a change in the stock program.
I did have to send it back to Superchips because after the reflash the pregrammer did not work. It only cost 12.50 and it works again.

I have an 04 with 46K on it and it leveled out right at 17 MPG. Even with the injector problems it stays there. Hopefully it goes up not down when its done getting worked on.

I got an '06 F350 CC LB in Dec and was getting around the same (12 city/14 hwy) as you when it was new. I installed a Banks cat back exhaust @ 1500 miles. The highway milage is doing a steady 75 mph. I also hand calculate my mileage at every fill. My truck mpg computer (lie-O-meter) seems to be anywhere from right on to .5 mpg optimistic
Just turned 19,000 miles and I'm getting 14 city 16 hwy. I noticed the jump at around 13-15k miles. I guess the motor starts "loosening" up around then?

I thought I read you get slightly better milage in WARMER weather?

Good luck with the new truck!

My 2006 F-250 4X4 is a month old.

On my first 1,000 mile trip with partial 2 lane and mostly 4 lane was as follows:

First Tank: 16 mpg
Second Tank: 16.5 mpg
Third Tank: 18.6 mpg this hand calculated to about 17.5 mpg

Now it has 3,000 miles and gets about 14 city and 16 highway

First trip pulling 2,000 lb. car trailer and 5,000 tall Jeep was 9 mpg average including some wind. I was hoping it would have done better than that.

I would buy a chip or programer, air intake and exhaust if I had a clue it any of these would improve mileage. I don't currently need any more power.
