Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken, but didn't the early 99 intakes pull from the fender location..and Ford redesigned the intake for the 99.5 because they were getting too many water ingestion problems?
I'm not sure which is which. I know that my niece has a '99 F350 - the intake is very different than my '00 (stock). Hers draws from the fender (I believe where the AIS foam sleeve goes). My '00 stocker drew from up front next to the radiator.
I looked at putting a different intake on hers - but it looks as though the intercooler tube is different and won't clear intake systems from later PSDs.
I have also been thinking about an AIS. But I don't like the airbox and snorkel designs. The box is just too small for an engine that can draw as much as the PSD. And, the snorkel is so convoluted - it has to be restrictive, especially when trying to feed that airbox. The sleeve helps, but doesn't get air from the best place (if you are looking at 'best').
Can you clean the AIS filter? or is it a consumable item?
The AIS is a consumable part, but lasts much longer than flat filters. Expect to get around 50K average out of the filter before needing to replace it. Some like to shake it out or blow air backwards through it to extend life as well. I have more than 30K on mine in some pretty dusty condition and its not ready to be replaced yet.

Thats great as it looks like replacement filters are around 80 bucks or so, doing that every 18 months or so wouldn't be bad.
cangim, these are by far the best air intake I have ever used and I have tried many of them over the years. For air flow, filtering, sound, fit and cost, you just can't beat them. We have a lot of dust in our area being a farming area and the AIS stops 100% of the fine dust from getting into the intake tube to the turbo. I am very aware of this as we have seen many customers trucks with other types of filters that have heavy dust in the intake and destroyed compressor wheels in the turbos.
