I switched from my Kwik filter to an AIS about six months a ago with the sleve & Zoodad. I also got sick of all the noise other than turbo whisle.. One thing I did notice is that the truck cools down quicker with the AIS vs the Kwik towing or not.
I just got back from my first tow with the AIS pulling around 7k TT, and the only time the egt's rose above 1200* is when I forgot I was in OD going up hill, once I droped OD they stayed in the 900* range climbing & around 500* or lower in the flats. this was also the first time I towed with my WG pluged in.
The temps are right in line with the Kwik filter give or take 50*
So far I think she flows plenty of air for my mods. I just got done doing my CCV mod & pull the wrap off my pipe in hopes of more whisle.
My opinion on this is the 6637 already flows way more than the engine can use and there won't be any measurable difference.
Well, maybe some difference as the AIS uses this huge Zoodad horn that goes up to behind the grill and gets cool air from right outside. A long time ago I did the Zoodad mod and the hole that I cut is a little larger than the intake for that.
But research done by members here on FTE have shown that underhood temps while underway aren't that much higher than ambient so it's not going to be that big of a difference.
I also gave the vendor direct orders to not cut the hole in the bottom of the airbox for the foam sleeve. I did this to quiet the drone and I didn't want any extra holes in the airbox to let sound out. I only run a mild tune, so I don't think I will be tripping the filter minder. Time will tell, he gave me the foam sleeve for the fenderwell if I needed it for the future.
If you do see the filter minder pulling down at all I would recommend installing the fender sleeve. It will not make the interior sound any louder than it is now as the filter does a great job of breaking up the sound and it is in the fender anyway. I have done the fender sleeve on all my PSDs and cannot tell any difference in sound inside.
I've got a simple solution for any annoying sounds. Go to war and get your hearing ruined like I did in 'Nam. I have the 6637 and don't notice squat....LOL

I just returned from a 300 mile trip and the filterminder is still bottomed out. Part of the trip involved a WOT blast up a 7% mountain pass just to test it out. Thanks again for the great deal that you gave me.
I too went with the AIS a Couple weeks ago. Just got back from a trip to Northern Arkansas pulling a 7500lb boat thru some pretty good mountains. Pulled a Bass Boat almost just like mine on the way back (5000lbs?) and seems to me that my EGT is up about 100-150*. I have taken this route before pulling my boat both ways and never had to watch the EGT, This time it went to 1190 a couple times. Filter minder has moved a little but not much,,Not even half way. I didnt do the fender mod either as i didnt want to cut any holes in the box. Sounds a LOT better than the 6637 filter for sure, Guess I got used to the noise since the AIS seems super quiet. So far I luv the AIS.!!
Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken, but didn't the early 99 intakes pull from the fender location..and Ford redesigned the intake for the 99.5 because they were getting too many water ingestion problems?
I actually can speak on my cell phone with the hands-free speaker now, which I could not do with the Kwik mod. I am not knocking the quick mod. I think for the price it was an outstanding effort
Well, I went and took the plunge. I was getting sick of all the drone coming out of the intake side of the engine. It would climb into my head at certain speeds.
I bought an AIS system from one of FTE's sponsors www.dieselpowerproducts.com and installed it on the truck.
I'm very glad that I did. The intake drone is dramatically reduced and it's a much more pleasant cruise on the freeway. I used to have to adjust the speed up or down by 1 mph increments to get the drone to quiet down and it never really went away.
Now with the AIS I can choose any speed I want and not have any drone. Plus I get the satisfaction that I have the best filtration system that money can buy for the 7.3 PSD!
And my old 6637 filter is getting put to good use: my buddy want's to stick it on his 89 gasser if it's possible.
I'm shocked Qwik. Welcome to the darker side.
You never cease to amaze me.
BTW, you need the fender sleeve if you're worried about flow and burying the minder.
The early 99 pulls from up front, but was a smaller box as the intake tubes are smaller. Now knowing the quietness of these things it has gotten me thinking, bummer part is I just put a new 6637 on a couple of weeks ago.
i installed the afe stage 2 and i got whistle but no annoying sounds whatso ever. is this because the sheilding that comes with the stage 2? i could move the filterminder on my ais with zoodad and fendersleeve mod on 1 good run.
Kwik, you will get your filter minder in the red occationally if you get on it pretty good
Not because of restricted air, it's because the AIS minder gauge is more sensitive than the stock Ford gauge.
By the way, when I converted from stock to AIS my boost increased #3, so it does breath well.

The AIS gauge does have an electrical connection too. Anyways, I was wondering what would be so bad about using the stock gauge?
