Click here for a link to my thread in the 99-03 forum. After installing my 6637 filter and CCV mod I'm getting a loud drone (low bass) sound in the cab- it increases with speed and is very noticeable/annoying at 65 mph. Just curious if any of you have experienced this as well.
Just a thought, not sure where all you worked on the truck, but I can say this,"stay the heck away from getting even close to the pwer steering lines!" I replaced a ps line once, and on restart it sounded like a small aircraft engine was under the dash running WFO. I tweaked the pressure lines apart/away( i'm talking 16th of inches ), after that, quiet as a mouse. My old 97 superduty has the hydro assist for the brakes coming off the steering pump, vs. a vac. booster. Just a thought, Jay
You might be hearing the sound of the intake for the first time. It's pretty muffled with the stock air cleaner assembly. you could allways put the stock stuff back on & see if it goes away. You get used to it after a while.
Interesting Robb... if my EBPV is acting up that would also explain the sluggish-ness on the lower end. When I get ready to head home tonight I'll unplug the AIT sensor to kill the EBPV and see what happens- thanks for the link!
Robb, I owe you a beer! Before I left to come home from work I unplugged the AIH sensor (which disables the EBPV) and it actually made quite a bit of difference- my truck seemed to run better too! It's not a complete fix, but definitely an improvement. I think I need to clean the EBPV really good and my problem will probably go away. Thanks again- reps sent.

A Beer, you cheap screw, buy him a gallon of DIESEL Thats more satisfiying than (A) beer.

Call me crazy, but I think a gallon of diesel would taste like chit!
I received/installed my filter cover last night, and on the way to work this morning the drone was back in full effect. I could also hear the EBPV operating while the truck was warming up, which is odd because unplugging the IAT sensor is supposed to cause the EBPV to stay open. Before I go home tonight I'll try unplugging the EBPV itself and see what happens. I think the drone is coming from my filter lightly contacting my fender, which is why installing the cover made it louder again.
I still think I have more low-end response with the IAT unplugged though, not sure why but it just seems like I do.
Someone in the 99-03 forum posted a quote from the manual that said if the PCM detects an IAT fault it defaults to some setting for IAT and makes the EBPV inop, apparently that was wrong though. Only reason I did that was because it's easier to get at... EBPV to be unplugged before going home tonight.
Did you by chance move your ccv mod hose away from the sheet metal on the cab? and I wonder if the abs pipe is creating a kind of turbulence inside that would make a droning noise I know this from running high cfm vac trucks I would use abs ends on the hoses sometimes and it would make a droning noise if the abs was not cut smooth or there was a nick in the abs or have you had a real good look at the filter to see if there is a hole or your connections are leaking somewhere
good luck with this one these kinda noises will drive a guy NUTS!

The ABS I used is couplers, so no rough edges or cuts. It could be causing turbulence though, because of it decreasing the diameter of the intake hose due to wall thickness. I haven't moved the CCV hose yet, trying to take it one step at a time until I figure it out. As far as I know there are no leaks- all the clamps are tight and everything is together the way it should be. No holes in the filter.
I really think most of the noise is coming from the filter resting on the sheet metal of the fender. When I get my exhaust in I'm going to cut some new adapters that are about 1/4" shorter than the ABS couplers I have now to get the filter off the fender and see what happens.
