Unhappy headlight problems

Hello all,
I have a '66 F100 custom cab long bed, my problem is that the headlights blink. When the truck is cold they are fine for about 15- 20 minutes, then they blink very evenly like they are hooked to a flasher. I have had the truck for about 7 years. The truck did this at first, but not very often. I replaced the hi-lo switch with only slightly better luck, still fashing but less often. After letting the truck sit for 2yrs it is as I described above. The ignition switch has been replaced somewhere along the line, but the headlight switch is unknown, if it has been replaced it is with one that looks stock. the only other thing that has been changed is it has an electrical brake light switch that I have replaced since then. different problem, same status on the headlights. I just don't want to chase parts if at all possible. And i did check the connections. The brake lights don't blink when this happens. I think thats all. Any ideas? Need more info?
Thanks, kris

Sounds like you have a weak Circuit Breaker in your Lighting Switch.
I would replace the Lighting Switch unless you have extra lights added to your Headlight circuit. In that case I would remove the extra load and use a relay.

I had a similar problem with my 78 until I replaced the headlight switch. My lights would randomly cut out and then kick back on.

Also check the wiring and the plug that plugs into the headlight switch while you are replacing it. Make sure none of the wires or the plug look melted.

I have the same problem w/ my '73.I replaced the headlight switch, but no improvement.Could be wires getting hot-I've heard sometimes this problem creates fires.Sorry, don't know the fix,but I would love to.

The problem is the older head lamp switches are not designed to take the load of the newer halogen lamps. What you need to do is rewire your head lamps with a relay drawing directly from teh battery.

See the tech article "brighter whites" or buy a head lamp harness from Summit. Though they use only 18 ? gauge wire, I would use a min of 14.
