Have recently purchased a 1970 F-100 in fair condition whose previous owners apparently liked to rewire alot of it. Beside gauge problems, etc., which former postings here I hope will solve my problems, I would like to know which is more likely with my headlights.
I turn on the headlight switch and they don't come on, but if I use my dimmer switch first the high beams, then with a little "foot" fiddleing the low beams will come on. This of course could be inconvienient in drizzly weather when I won't be sure IF my lights are on or not. Which do you recommmend first? Headlight switch or dimmer switch? Also, any where to get electrical diagrams for a 1970 F-100?
Thanks, Doridea
He may have wired in a relay, you need to look around for an odd relay and try and draw how it is wired in. I do have 1968 Ford Truck Diagrams and then I jump to 1977. What you have would be close to one or the other. I would try and help you with a drawing of how something is wired or how it would work.
Foot fiddleing with the dimmer switch sounds like the dimmer switch may be bad, or the connections going to it may be loose. It leads a hard life down on the floor with dirt and water all around.
You can test it with a meter or testlight. It has 3 wires. One is power coming in from the headlight switch, and the two are going out to the headlights. The two that are going out are high and low beam.
