I went to Sears the other day to get new filters for my lawn tractor. They wanted $14 for the oil filter, this is the one they down sized two years ago. Didn't even see a price on the air filter, which no longer includes the foam pre-filter. Is there some place else I can get the filters for less, and better quality?
Their is a ford filter that is a taller size that can be used as a replacement. It is a FL400 or FL400A. Most oil manufacturers have cross reference guides on their web sites to find their specific part number. Just stay away from Fram filters their junk. I buy Purolators(#L20195 or PL20195) at Advance auto for around $6.00. Also wait til you price a fuel filter, Their also $12 a piece. I bought a Purolator (#F21124) that is only $3.00 at Pep Boys. I used these on my John Deere L110 tractor with a 17.5hp kohler Command.
I have no idea what Kohler oil filters you have, but my 25, 26 and 27 Kohler Commands used part Kohler number 52 050 02s filters. I use Wix 51348 now, but used have used Purolator L10241 and PureOne PL10241 filters. I have used both of them off and on for years.
If your filter is shorter, check the Wix 51056 or a Napa 1056. I think it is the cross for a Kohler 12 050 01.
The napa filters are about $13 a piece, so they are no cheaper than the Kohler filters. The purolator L10241 and the purolator L20195 are the same thread pitch and diameter. the only difference is the height, the L20195 is taller, so you get more filtering surface area for the money if it will fit.
Then skip the Napa Wix are running me about 5 bucks and change. Actually, I bought Kohler filters from a mower shop up in Virginia when I was up there for under 7 bucks each. It was more than I was used to paying for filters, but I was struck by how reasonable they were on genuine Kohler filters and had to impulse-buy about 10 of them.
