after using the jack that came with my Ranger to rotate the tires myself, I have decided that is too much exercise for me. I went and got a couple of 2-ton floor jacks, plus jack stands. However, the lifting part of the floor jacks is a round piece too large to fit inside the intended Ranger jacking points. Any pointers ? signed "dumb as a stump"
My tires were rotated LF to LR and RF to RR per the manual. I assume yours is the same. I just used a single floor jack under the frame rail on the side I was working on, no problems.
I have 2 industrial floor jacks liberated from a Discount Tires dumpster. Since I worked there for oh 3 years or so, I rotated alot of tires. Usually I had 3 jacks, but with the 2, I lift the rear by the dif and d-side by the frame. I usually cross the front to the rear, and just switch sides in the front. Got 60k out of a set of BFG AT's doing this every oil change(5k) on my wife's Exploder.
There was a warning in my Haynes or Chilton (I forget) about lifting at the diff, as it could crack or warp the cover.
It's that kind of thing that makes me nervous. I have to confess that the last time I did this sort of thing was on my stable of VW beetles back in the 60's and early '70's. But after somehow inheriting a 1950 Ford tractor and getting my hands dirty on it, my Ford Ranger gets the going over from my hands now too...
