Check Engine light flashes, Stalls when slowing down.
I have a 89 F150 automatic with the 302 engine. The check engine light comes on, sometimes flashing. When I start to come to a stop, the motor misses and dies sometimes. If I put it in neutral, it starts right back up. This seems to happen only when the truck warms up. The codes returned are 13, 33, 44, 52, and 77. While getting the codes, I didnt do the part of the test where you move the steering wheel. I think some of those codes may be related to that. There is a brand new EGR and idle control valve on the motor. Any help would be appreciated.
Codes 13 (RPM out of spec at idle) , 52 (power steering pressure switch, PSPS, no changes detected), and 77 (operator error during test) are errors from your test. Don't worry about those codes.
Code 33 is the EVP (EGR Valve Position Sensor) sensor indicating your EGR is not opening or is not seated (closed) properly. You can remove the EGR and see if it is seated properly.
Did you install the EGR or someone else. Did you get the right EGR? Is the EVP mounted on top of the EGR and plugged in? Sounds like the EGR is not working properly.
Code 44 is problems in Thermactor Air Control system, which consists an air pump, air flow control valves, and the catalytic converter. Check your air pump hoses and all vacuum lines that run off the pump. Check your vacuum lines at your TAB and TAD Air Control Valves. You may also have a bad catalytic converter.
Cleared codes. Still get 33 and 44. The EGR valve is brand new. EVP is also new. I took it off and checked to make sure it wasn’t sticking. No leaking or disconnected air hoses that I can see. Truck seems to run fine when I first start it up until I turn it off and start it again. THEN I get intermittent flashing check engine light and stalling when decelerating. Once it cools down again, it runs fine. Im thinking catalytic converter?
OK. Checked all vacuum lines. When I unplug the electrical wires on both the EVR and the EGR, check engine light stays on but motor runs fine. Could this be a problem in the EVR and or EGR or could it possibly be something else?
I bet your EVP is bad. If it is a new EVP, take it back for another one. From my experience, when I have unplugged a known bad sensor, the truck runs better. But not for long. The computer will try to compensate and eventually it runs like crap.
