Ok so I figure it's time to get rid of the sloppiness in my shifter. It's a plastic bushing, correct? Where have you guys been getting replacements, how much, and how's the install go? Thanks.
Nope, cancelled it after waiting a month and a half on backorder and with no end in sight with any of the major providers, I figured I could spend the money on other things, like new tires since my mom ran the dear Ranger up on a curb and screwed both passenger side ones up.
i called jeg's yesterday to see when i could expect mine, they told me 6/10. i ordered it 5/10. i'll wait a while longer i guess. when i tried to get bushings for the stock shifter at the stealership, they gave me bunch of run-around about needing a engineering # off the side of the trans case. my trans is a rebuilt unit, painted gloss black by the rebuilder, the sticker is there but no readable info. they wanted to sell me most of the assy including the shaft with the piviot ball. you think they would offer a rebuild kit with something designed to fail like this setup is. i took mine apart to see what was left, and i dont have anything but a couple of wave washers on either side of the pivot ball. no nylon parts left. poor design. wish id have called around to see if anyone had the hurst in stock, theres a couple of local speed shops plus summit racing. i checked e-bay just the other day, no luck there. guess i'll just be patient.
I had ordered mine off eBay, it was the only one available at that time. Later some idiot listed his stock shifter as "Ford Ranger Hurst Shifter". Left him a nice email about tricking people like that.
I ordered mine on 4/13, cancelled 5/28. The backorder delay went from two weeks to three weeks and just kept going, finally I got tired of it.
Oh well, new bushings should at least make the stock one tolerable.
Zack, if what Racsan said is correct, it sounds like hurst is fixing to turn loose of some more shifters. It would still be 100 times better to get the hurst, than to put any money in the ***** out stock shifter. Everbody that has the hurst, do nothing but rant and rave about how much better it is than the stocker.
Bad thing is that Zach has that 94 with a speedometer cable and he's going to get a fluid leak before long...the fluid can't vent from the tranny with the Hurst.
I have done the shifter bushing rebuild...it's been GREAT in the month or two I've been working with it.
Part numbers you need (QTY):
1L2Z - 7Z120 - AA (2)
1L2Z - 7277 - AA (1)
1L2Z - 7228 - AA (2)
E8TZ - 7E018 - A (2)
You may or may not need the lower bushings. I bought, but didn't need the ones I ordered, which in fact are the same as the upper rings.... Oh well, maybe later on for the next rebuild.
The shifter alignment pins (stick into the shifter hole from the sides) that come out--or they may be sheared already--can be had at a tranny shop. Reaplce them now anyway!
Here's the upload I have of the shifter parts....on my old webpage I use for situations like this now:
Thanks Alfred, I remember seeing your diagram and part numbers somewhere else (I already had them written down). Good to see it again though. As for these alignment pins, are they one of the parts you listed?
