Secret Navigation Keypad!!
This is the most frustrating thing and very unsafe feature of the navigator. If you live and drive on California freeways, stopping on the side of the road to input a destination is very dangerous albeit annoying too.
There are codes for Lexus, Cadillac, Nissan, etc. I have tried them all in my 04 navi.
So i am enlisting the help of all 2003+ Navi / Expy owners with the Factory Navigation.
I recently found a way to input these secret codes that im revealing to you today for a low low price... FREE! hehe
Once you have passed the Lawyer screen, push and hold the Menu button AND the Audio button for five seconds. You will get a number pad possibly since i dont know if it works on all years.
Ive called a few dealers and people that have been there 20 years havent heard of this trick.
I found the shop that does all the radio work for the San Diego area Lincoln dealers. Its called Auto Radio Specialist 1565 India St, San Diego, CA (619) 234-8293
I called and the guy was kinda rude. Maybe he gets a ton of calls with jokers asking a millions questions, but he shoulntd be short with me.
Basically he said he had never heard of it. Another 20 year+ guy...
I found another really helpful guy at the dealer in Escondido. He is gonna do some searching AND have his head service advisor call ford for some answers.
Hopefully that will pan out because they wouldnt put a keypad there for nothing!!
I read most of it. It looks like the diagnostic code is all that works.
I wonder if the manufacturer put any more codes in, such as one to disable the speed sensor.
Ill keep playing around with it. Any other ideas?
I wonder if there is a similar feature built in to the newer unit. Otherwise i might have to put a bypass switch on the speed sensor wire.
Hold down audio and menu for 5 seconds then type in 917 enter. (Thanks DiscountFord!)
It will bring you into a lot of menus.
Such as a Navigation menu that basically makes sure the gps is working.
A hardware menu that checks if the navigation unit is working. This is either auto or manual.
You can check your software version So next time you take your car to the dealer that can update your software to the newest version. One change ive heard is the addition of a SAT button instead of an FM2 button.
Nothing really exciting. You can check your actual speed which is nice if you have upgraded to 22's or 24's. I believe my speedo was off by a few mph faster.
Let me know if there is anything else.

Another said it should work, but might have to recalculate your destination every time you enable it.
The last guy said it possibly will void the warranty on the radio and nav.
So i havent tried it yet since i havent had much time.
So anyone out there who has no warranty, and is handy with electronics, maybe could give it a whirl.
