i thought so too, but theres some wierd people in this thread.
and about my 78, i love it, she does great off-road, and easy to work on, most of the time. but the 79 does have slightly stronger U-joints and a couple other things, i think.
slash31938, your right, ford changed the u joints and yokes from 1310 in 78 to 1330 in 79(not much stronger, but the next step up)
i was at NAPA buying U-joints for my rear slip yoke on the 78, and it took me about 4 trips to get the right one. go figure. i ended up with one that the book said should only belong in a 77 or earlier bronco. i dunno, but it fit.
BTW, the slip yokes at JBG are awesome. he sends you new ones, not some junkyard finds, and the "collar" is a mash on instead of a screw on, plus they look to be made of a stronger steel.
I am just jealous of people who can drive these new trucks(grocery getters) while I have to wrench on my old iron. (99 ranger and 96 bronco, can't beat these rides!)
This just slays me. I made myself walk away from the computer, but I couldnt stop myself
74fordtruck, you liked my comment huh?
I guess the original post by lil_dq was about fitting 37-44 in tires under his 02
F-150, mainly for looks.
This is my point, I do no know what you drive, you drive it because you can AFFORD it and you like your truck.
Ford makes money by selling new trucks and cars, and they will for a long time.
They know there is a market for people who buy trucks for the image and status. I hope I can buy a new FORD truck that does not have to work for a "Living". All my trucks have been loaded with tools since the day I bought them.
That's what FORD trucks were originally created for, to WORK.
I like FORD'S quality and toughness, I do abuse my trucks and they stand up to the hard use.
The demand for trucks is so high, the price is reflected by it.
Now, there are not too many small business owners who can put down 27,000 for a new truck. (base, worktruck). It is a hard liability to overcome.
New XLT F-150's at 40,000 is tough too. 72 monthly payments at 500.00?
So we all have to pay for the people who want a cool F-150(they are cool)- take a look at half of them. There is nothing in the bed.
I have to fix and maintain my older trucks, I just can't go an buy a new one because it is nice looking. My Bronco is a 96, but it's roots go back to 1980, and my '99 ranger has it's roots back to 1983. Props to FORD for their advances in technology- engineering and manufacturing.
Do what you want with your own truck, but you don't have to go broke doing it.
FORD trucks are in my opinion the best work trucks evermade.
here are the trucks I have owned since I could drive
