2003 Explorer - help???

I think this is related to the rear a/c, but not really sure since I know absolutely nothing about mechanics. That being said ... I have a tapping noise coming from the back of my vehicle when I turn the rear a/c on. I have narrowed it down to a rear panel on the driver's side at the very back. There is a plastic vent looking cover that I was able to pop off and see where the noise was coming from. I just don't know what I was looking at. DUH?? The air works fine, I'm just afraid that since the noise happens when I turn the rear a/c on that I should'nt use it until I know what the cause is. We're going on vacation soon and I really need to know if I need to come up with big bucks to get this fixed. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

What kind of a noise is it? Metallic, plastic, etc? I'll try and look and see what is located there.

It sounds like a clock ticking to me, every other second or two. It is almost non existant, or very faint when the a/c is switched to heat. Any suggestions? Thanks!

More info .... it now kind of reminds me of a pumping sound. The front a/c is only cooling part of the time. Not sure if this is two seperate issues or one in the same???
Thanks, Family Fun

There used to be a technical writeup on this site for the fix for that rear blender door. Trying to find it now myself. Anybody seen it?

Same Here

My Wife's 2003 Explorer was doing the same thing. I like you, opened up the rear driverside panel where the noise was coming from and found the noise coming from a black box. I unplugged the wiring harness to this box and the noise stopped. Now the front AC/heater controls are doing the samething, clicking noise between the heat and cool settings.

Anyone know what this is? or what the repair is?

Thanks
