Hello, I think my passenger side parking brake is hanging up. I religiously set the parking brake everytime I park, but even so it seems to be sticking. I get some violent shaking at times driving down the road. Also you can smell burning brakes from that side and the hub is much hotter than any of the others. I have already had it in to the dealer for this problem but it didn't do it for them so they played ignorant and wouldn't even pull the wheel off to take a look for the problem. Having already been in 3 times this month for warranty repairs I hoping to try to get this fixed this time when I go in. The problem is if they play ignorant again I would like to have the TSB in hand to show them. I checked the TSB listing here and at motorcraft service but I don't see it. Does anyone have the TSB # or is it one of those common sense things that the dealer should just be able to fix on its own? Please advise thanks. 2004 4x4 SCAB.
I'm new to warrenties and such but could you try another Ford dealership with your warrenty? If not, do those new trucks still have rear drums? If so, have you tried adjusting the wheel cylinder? Good luck!
there are no tsb listed for 2004 f-150 parking brake concerns, I'm a tech and checked our ford website, the parking brake may be hanging up, just remove teh wheel and caliper and rotor and check the parking brake shoes, if it hanging upm the shoes will be broken, because they are only designed to hold the veh not stop it, therefore the pads are small and also the pad material is only glued to the pad and will come off if used for braking
i would just take a quick look at the parking brake. pull the caliper, bracket and rotor and have a look at the parking brake. it is tiny so if it was left on it is now broken or melted.

You mean the adjuster. You do not adjust the wheel cylinder on drum brakes. They cant be adjusted.
Take caliper and rotor off as suggested. Check shoes for damage and/or symptoms of locking up. There also should be a parking brake shoe adjuster which you might be able to back down a bit so it wont lock up.

Had the same problem. It doesn't just require fixing, it requires some modification. I didn't watch exactly what the mechanics did, but it has stayed fixed. I paid about a hundred bucks for the work, I think it was worth it.
Sometimes the work you get for "free" on warranty is worth exactly what you pay for it, Nothing.
Thank you for the replies. The other f150 site shows a thread with what a poster calls the expander cam, which the parking brake cable hooks on to. He describes it as made out of cheap metal which gets rust welded and thats what causes the parking brake to hang up on one side only. I had hoped that ford had seen this problem enough to issuse a tsb to fix it. I guess not. Oh well, if ford won't fix it i'll fix it myself or turn it over to a trusted independent mechanic.
Thank you for the replies. The other f150 site references a part inside the parking brake hub called the expander cam. Its described as being made out of cheap metal that gets rust welded. It attaches to the parking brake cable and may not be allowing the parking brake on that side to release. I had a previous reply that had the link but it was held pending approval. If it shows up you can see what I'm taking about. In the meantime if ford won't fix it, I'll fix it myself or get a trusted independent mechanic to fix it. Thanks again.
Ford does have info on it but it appears that they don't have a TSB out yet.
I'm a tech at a dealer too. last week while I was on hold with Ford's Technical Hotline there was a message talking about it. Your dealer could call the Hotline and ask them.

Now that you mention it the mechanics who fixed mine talked about rust welding. You're on the right track.
The general improvement in the brakes from the previous model to this one, I find to be substantial. Too bad Ford couldn't have also found a way to develop an effective park brake.
My parking brake assambly came appart on 06 with only 3k miles, it destroyed everything had it towed to the dealer, they replaced rotors, axle seals, differential fluid etc.

Guess those of us with just the sticking problem should be happy!
My truck 05'F150FX4, did the same exact thing. They didn't list the service bulletin but I can tell what they did and it worked. Removed rear wheels and calipers removed rotors found parking brake dragging causing shudder disassembled parking brakes found pivots siezed freed pivots and lubed reassembled and the shudder is gone. Hope this helps, I have 14k on truck and it was warrantied of course.
I have the same issue. If I use my PBrake the truck will shake violently when I'm driving after releasing the brake. My dealer said it's a known issue and that there is a fix. My appointment is set for next week.
