Even though the TSB on sticky parking brakes only applies to 11-12 models, my 13 had the same symptoms. So last night we finally tore into it. What we found was that the part on the driver side rear that connects the cable to the shoe actuator was sticking and hanging up. Can anybody tell me what that part is actually called and where to get one?
It's the part that looks like a miniature ice pick. It's got two small metal plates that swivel on each other. One end of the parking brake cable/spring hooks onto it, and then it goes inside the drum to actuate the brake shoes. Mine was rusty and hanging up. Looks like a poor design. Is this a dealer only item?
Also, on the passenger side, the little spring at the bottom that is supposed to put tension on the adjuster star wasn't holding it. It appears that the star wheel can move freely. So I guess those shoes could potentially adjust themselves out too tight on their own.
I don't know why something as simple as a parking brake has to be so difficult for them to engineer.
Nope. The second picture in post #1 in this thread is the part that seized up on my truck. Apparently it's a common issue. Improper materials used, and lack of use cause it. I guess it's a dealer only item.
