APC Billet grille

Anyone using one of these on their X ? I just won one on E-bay for $9. I figured it was worth trying for that little bit of money. I searched on Google and they appear to run about $150-$180 new.

I too got an APC billet grille off of ebay. It came with no instructions and it must be the wrong grille because it is too long to fit into the grille opening once I remove the factory grille. If I want to use the grille I am going to have to cut the grille to make it fit. The kit number is 804025P and I have '97 extended cab flareside. I don't know if that makes a difference.

I don't use one but hey, if you don't like it just re-ebay it. You should be able to make a little dough or at least break even.

APC products are fairly popular. Cheaply made, IMHO but they are still in business. Guess that says something...

Monsta...my local auo parts shop told me that APC went out of business due to some legality issues and fines over marking the tail lights they used to sell as DOT, when they did not have the correct reflectors, etc.

I have never bought their products, but around here even the kids say that APC stands for "Another Piece of Cr*p".

Thought this was interesting, especially since I have their tail lights. From the look of their web site, APC seems very much alive. There, was, however a recall issue involving certain of their tail lights, see NHTSA at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...ls/results.cfm

just for your information

bucky...you could be correct...and I'd hope so. Hate to see someone out of biz.
You are correct, their website is up and running. I know my friends at the store said they went under, but maybe it was for re-organization or the like.

This certainly could not have helped...

NIce amount of money. These fines are usually negotiated down when finally resolved. I see that in my work with OSHA fines and such. Since that was in 2003, I think they survived whatever the final amount was, I think they have released new products after that date. I'm sure more of this will occur in the future with all that low cost production availible in China.

APC Billet grille

Do not know what grille you have , but I used a APC 804065P. Though they say it will fit on an X it is really for any truck that has a one piece grille shell. It will fit and does look good but takes a lot of triming and fitting to get it right.

Here are a few simple steps to get you started.

1. with the snap in inserts in the shell trace a line around the insert on the chrome.

2. rest the billet insert into the shell and check for clearence. (you will do this a lot)

3. cut the shell along the drawn line (approx 3/8").

4. rest the billet insert into the shell and check for clearence. (you will do this a lot)

5. keep triming and test fitting till it fits the way you want.
