Sorry for the bump but, I wanted to ask another question. Can I install the zf and install the cover later or does it install behind the flywheel ?

If you look back a few days in the threads here, there was one about auto to manual. In one of the posts there was a pic of everything needed to swap in a ZF including the tin plate. I think it does go behind the flywheel but not sure but if you can find that pic you will know for sure.

Looks like I'll have to holler at the yards 120 miles away and see what they say. I have spent so much time reading and $1.6K on this conversion that I can't stop now.

Or, cut the E4OD plate to fit around the starter hole and jerry rig the lower cover out of tin to cover the lower half of the integral bellhousing. I HATE to to do it but, if that's what it takes, so be it.

I'd still like a pic though............please!

Is that a good enough picture for you? :)
It's from the "ZF swap" thread Lazy mentioned.
I looks just like the one I got off my 351w+ZF.

Do you need a better picture because you want to fabricate one from an auto?
I've got one loose and can measure its thickness and take a picture both.

I found one. Called all of the yards I could find in OR, no dice. Searched online and found a co. named QuickTime who manuf's. performance engine plates. Only one distributor had one in stock and it was just returned by another customer yesterday. Maybe my luck has changed now......

I'll do a writeup soon here at FTE concerning the bbf/zf swap so it will help others considering the project and I'll include my costs involved without a donor (-time and fuel).

Still saving around $1k over a sd e4od rebuild.

Thanks again all for your help.

What's the difference between the shield for an E4OD and a ZF?

The starter hole is aligned differently because of the larger diameter of the flywheel as compared to the flexplate.

The auto one is flat. The ZF one is bent towards the back at the bottom.
