'69 front & rear light assemblies

I have a 1969 f250

I would like to replace the bulb sockets and associated wire leads in both the front (parking)& rear (brake/run & reverse). I am in the process of rewiring my truck and feel these are now the weak links to an otherwise completely new wiring system. The leads are old and brittle. For both the front & rear I wish to reuse the metal assembly housing, just replace the sockets and leads.

My problem, these sockets appear to be permenantly connected to the metal assembly housing. Is this correct? Or do I need to apply some vise grips and go for it. I don't want to damage the metal assemby housing.

FMC does not carry either the metal assembly housing or the sockets inside.

Does anyone know a good solution to replacing these sockets. Junkyard parts will be just as bad as what I have now. How about a NOS dealer? My thought is that NOS parts have sat around and the wiring could be just as brittle.

I am pretty compulsive about replacing everything. I just don't know when or how to say to myself that something is good enough, and move on to the next problem. If I find a solution outside of this forum,I will return and post my findings.

thanks, rob

Thanks, rob

'69 front & rear light assemblies

Just a few weeks ago I found a couple of rear taillight assemblies for Lonnie and sent them to him.
The were in Mint shape.

The sockets are part of the assembly and will not come off without damaging them.

I can check for more if you wish.
I'm pretty sure the front ones are still there.

Thanks, I appreciate the offer.

Are the front assemblies NOS or from a used truck?

My assemblies are actually in pretty decent shape. Most normal folks would look at these sockets and assemblies and tell me "they are fine, why waste so much time trying to replace them!" As I stated above, I am overly compulsive about some things.

I have new premium quality 14GA. wire throughout the truck, but then it terminates to the 20GA. old leads coming off these assemblies.

As a design engineer, I find these assemblies flawed if you cant replace the critical member. But these old trucks beat the tar out of the new ones for parts replaceablity.

Its mostly a battle with myself, when is it good enough?

Dennis, you have been very kind to respond to my questions and others folks as well, thanks.
