So i have been reading on a couple other forums as well as listening to my friend about the wonders of seafoam. So i gave it a try last night. i took off my brake booster off.. ran the motor.. poured about 1/3 of can in there.. turned motor off and reattached the hose.. started explorer and man did it smoke, for about 5 min and now the engine purs like new.!! i am a seafoam believer.
I would like to understand more-- you removed the booster-- (why?)
poured the Seafoam into the crankcase? while the motor was running?
stopped the motor---
rehooked up the booster--
it smoked then started running smoother..
Is that right?
I've been wondering about Seafoam and just bought some.- Thanks
Seafoam is a very good top end cleaner. If you put it into the crankcase and the engine starts smoking, you have problems that Seafoam can't fix however. He actually meant remove the vacuum line going to the brake booster to allow pouring the Seafoam into the intake via the booster vacuum line. This gets it into the intake so it can work. I usually use a small piece of vacuum hose and attach it to a spare vacuum port on the intake. I'll generally put it in with the engine running so it can suck it up through the hose. It's much easier if you have 2 people so one can keep the engine at around 1,500 RPM. Then after pulling the Seafoam into a running engine, I'll shut it off before all of the cleaner is out of the intake to allow a soaking period of a few minutes. Then restart the engine with all vacuum ports sealed and burn out the rest of the Seafoam. It'll clean your intake, valves, heads, and some on the injector tips. I also pour a can into the gas tank every so often to clean out the injector internals. I have used it on engines where it smoked very little (not much carbon build up inside) and I have seen it smoke like a freight train. Do it outside.
thats for helping me out on the explanation .. but yeah.. i am going to pour some into my crankscase come oil change time.
jerrysimm.. did u use the whole can for in the vaccuum line.. i only used about 1/3. i put 1/3 in my gas tank and i am going to put the rest in the crankcase in about 1500 miles... won't putting it in the crankcase help out my lifters.
