I'm looking to upgrade to 285s. Anyone familiar with tires in that size which are rated at Load Range E? I know you can get the BFG All-Terrain T/A KO in Es. I'm hoping there are other options.

If you're around a Discount Tire, you can get the Pathfinder All Terrains.
We dont carry this brand, but I have had good luck with cooper tires in the past. You might want to check them out. The Pro-Comp AT's are nice. We had a buy 3 get one free in march. I got the Extreme AT's for my F350. They make just enough noise to sound like a real truck tire and they ride better than those crappy Conti's that came on it.
I found out my wandering problem on my 00 X is the tires are shot. I didn't have them rotated in time and the now rears are cupped and one of the now fronts has belts broken, supposedly. The guys at the tire shop my work deals with says they have had really good luck with the Revo, guess I need to talk to my boss today and get his okay to have new tires put on the beast. He will love me for that. I can only blame myself. It's my company truck and it's my responsibility to keep it maintained. Guess I need to pay more attention before they revoke my truck and give me a Yugo to drive.
I'm in need of tires soon on my '03 Excursion. I'd like to hear what tires are good and at a good price that have worked for others. I'd really like to find a tire review for excursions but haven't had any luck finding one on google.
I have Nitto Terra Grappplers. Before thinking you need load range E, look at the weight capacity of the D. Some Ds are just about the same as Es per tire. That was the case with mine since it is very tough to find an E tire in 35s. After almost 20K miles, I have hardly any wear. I rebalanced them at 10K and rotate at 5K. They are not expensive either and are a mildly aggressive AT.
Good luck
Stewey, I'm not sure why you need Load Range E when you go to 285's? I am running Bridgestone REVOs in 285 Load Range D. Their capacity exceed the GVWR for the vehicle. I tow a 9-10K pound trailer with no problems at all.

It is not all about weight ratings. E-load tires are 10-ply, which is a much stiffer sidewall that a D-load with 8-ply construction. What is the max psi of your tires?. I was talked out of the 285 Revos by the Firestone salesman because of this. Ford recalled the old D-load Steeltex in part because of this. I am glad you have no issues towing you trailer, as I too tow a heavy travel trailer, but didn't want to compromise my towing capability because the bigger tire "looked better"
Ya I'm looking for stock size tires only. I pull a Toy Hauler that reaches 8-9000 lbs. There are steeltex on there now but I just bought the truck a month ago.

rozett...you're correct on load capacity, but my trailer is almost 35' long and I need every advantage I can find, load range E tires being one of them I think. I'm getting ever so closer to the set-up that will provide the best towing characteristics for my rig.
