Anyone here ever heard of Nanking tires? I'm replacing the tires on my F250 and a local tire shop has a good deal on a set. I can't find much info online about them. Are they any good?
I'm a mechanic for a Michelin, Firestone/Bridgestone, Continental, General tire dealership in SW Missouri. And I have never heard of that tire.
That sounds like you may be in for trouble later.
You simply get what you pay for.
When you get a puncture be sure to add Hino rice with a cup of hot water in the tire to seal that "Made in China" tire leak. Feel safe, my butts riding on known USA or Michelin brand tires. Anything like Chung King? I have heard of them and seen them usually on cheapo import items like wheelbarrows at your made in China stores like Wal-Mart.
Got Rice?

I've had them on two seperate vehicles, both low profile. didnt have any problems with them, ran straight, no premature wear, even hit a pot hole and bent the crap out of the rim and the tire was perfect.
Have heard of them being trouble but i got more flats with B.F. Goodrich and Goodyear so go figure.
Correction: Spelled "Nankang". I think they may be part of Kumho Tire Co.
Thanks guys. I will have them installed on Saturday. They are replacing the original set of Goodyear Hi Milers on my '78 F250. They look IDENTICAL to the Goodyears on the truck now (judging by the pic). They are 8.75-16.5 10-ply like the originals. The originals have lasted 28 years so I hope these do the same. The originals are not cracked at all, just worn. Will have to see how they do.
I just like the look of the old bias-ply tires on the 70's trucks. Just my personal preference. The truck rides/drives fine with them now and I want to keep it as close to original as possible.
Just a side note....my '75 F150 is mostly Taiwan now anyhow and is faring well.....i'll give the China tires a try.
Actually it rides great. For some reason the '78 F250 with the 10-ply bias ply tires and Camper Special Package rides better than my '75 F150 with LT235 radials. As a matter of fact the F150 rides horrible. Go figure. I'm still scratching my head. One reason i'm sticking with the bias ply tires on this one. Will get the tires in the morning. Will let you all know how they do.
Stay away from that brand, I did a quick research on that brand a while back and pulled up bad press quicker then expected and posted it in the towing forum.
Whoops, too late now....Had them installed this morning. I did some research also and found both good and bad. Like anything else. The worst set of tires I ever had were a set of well cared for 4 year old Michelins that exploded within a week of each other. Seemed a bit pre-mature to me. But everybody I talk to love them. Would I buy them again? Probably...at the right price.
Actually these say "Nanco" on the sidewall. Same company I guess. Look great. Just like the old bias ply tires of the 60's/70's. Match my originals well except they aren't as wide. My originals were Goodyear "Wide Tread". No longer available as far as I can tell. Seem to be good so far. Rides even smoother. With 10 plies, they should be okay. I will be pulling a trailer in May with it. If anything interesting happens with them i'll let you all know.
