where have you put your power amps for your tunes
I am just using an Ipod for tunes via a power amplifier
and I am trying to mount the amp in behind the dash
What size of an amp are you wanting to install? Are you also adding in some bigger speakers such as 10"s or 12"s? If so, I could post a pic of how I installed two 12's and two 6x9's in a custom box with a recession made in the center for the 1000w amp in my '74 F100 that is placed behind the bench seat. (Although I did also build the box to fit what I wanted.) Btw, If you really want a pic, someone is going to have to give instructions on how to post pics as I am NOT a computer person.
Thanks for the help. I've started my gallery as you suggested, but don't be too suprised if it takes me a few days to get going. I'll post the pics as I learn.
So far i have purchassed a pioneer 2channell amp and i sneaked it into my dashbord between the heater controll and the glovebox as m y truck came stock with no radio and there is a plate that says Ford where a radio would be i also ran a ytype rca cable out to underneath the dash so I can plug my Ipod into it its really strange I kinda freaked the guys out at best buy when i told them of my plans but then i let them see my orange truck and they understood
It isn't paint. The box and the console were both stained with an Ebony stain then a semi gloss clear coat so that the wood grain would still show through. The camera flash didn't do it much justice, but it looks good when seen in person. Thanks for the positive comment though.
An amp needs a little space around it to cool. I'm thinking that if you put it in the dash it may overheat. If you don't have a fuel tank behind the seat I'd put it there, if not then under the seat. Mine's under the seat but with two 8's and one 12" behind the seat I was out of options.
i thought i was a genius when i installed my 10 disc changer in place of my trucks glovebox, it worked great for a couple months....but, between the heat of the sun through the windshield, and the heat from the heater in the winter i ended up cooking the CD changer....i wouldnt mount the amp in there, they creat alot of heat on their own, combine that with the other elements i mentioned and that amp wont last long at all...the only advantage to having it in there was that when the thieves got my amp and speakers, they couldnt get the changer out of the dash....if i were you i would rivot the amp to the back wall of the cab between some speaker boxes, if you rivot it in, it will be pretty difficult to steal....be sure to use some kind of spacer between the amp and the cab to allow some airflow behind it, it will really help to lengthen the amps life.....my 3 cents......
I used a setup similar to Stick's except I only have the AMP and a 12" in mine. Used to have a CD changer mounted similar to his 6x9s but it crapped out on me.
