When did you do an oil change or haven't you yet? This might help. I changed a 1K and have had great power on our 04 towing 10K thru the mountains. We blow the socks off the others (dodge,GM) towing with the same size trailer up the mountains. Towing we get thru the mountains about 12. Solo we get around 18-20 depending on speed. If RPM's go above 2K then you start to loose MPG

My 05 now has 14k miles, I use synthetic oil, have had the egr replaced under recall.
I get exactly the same mpg as the first tank. (9 miles on the od when I got it)
I've gotten as low as 5.7mpg pulling 28 foot 8k pound toy hauler.
Three times to the dealer.....everything appears ok, no codes...etc.
It doesn't blow smoke, runs great....mpg just terrible. I get 11-12 in town and 11-12 highway unloaded (using CC on highway going speed limit).
Some of these trucks just don't get good mileage, and I've never seen anything on this or any other board with any real suggestions, other than fuel filters, egr's etc which if they were going bad you would have other symptoms.
My feelimg is that you will just have to get used t it or sell....sorry.....
Also wondeing which rear end ratio yoou have 4:10 or 3:73 the 4:10 gives lots of power but low MPG. I've also seen a pickup in mileage from a better grade of fuel . A cetane of 45 is the best for these engines.

I would check your map sensor and your IAT2. These two sensors monitor air intake and regulate the fuel. I just had my truck in the shop and they replaced my map sensor. I am at a half a tank and have driven 240 miles. before that my mpg was pretty bad. Also, are you using diesel kleen fuel additive?
...I have 3.73 gears, changed oil at 3K to sythetic. Have done no other maintenance, etc. No additives. I'm going to look into these solutions if things don't improve in the next 5K miles.
I Have An 06 250 Extended Cab/lb Superduty 6.0 4x4. Im Just Under 5k Miles Right Now. Im Getting Ready To Do My First Oil Change. Im New To Owning Diesel And Any Advise Would Be Great. Things Like. What Oil Is Best For The 6.0, What Other Things Should I Do, Or Would Be Good To Do At This Time. Also - Has Anyone Installed The After Market Oil Drain Plug That Has The Quick Drain Lever On It? So Anything That Y'all Can Recomend Would Be A Great Help. Thanks.

i get about 15mpg w/ no load and a boost around 5-10 psi so you getting 9mpg with boost around 20 psi 90% of the time doesn't sound like that bad of a thing because 20 psi 90% of time is load believe it or not. You can use that boost gauge as a fuel usuage gauge because the more the boost the more the money.
