The high beam indicator is just a light bulb in the middle of the cluster. Remove the trim ring and lens and check it(good time to clean the inside of the lens).
Just an update on this project. I did get the instrument panel apart OK and back together. Turns out the bulb was not burned out after all, and there must have been a short or something. Miraculously, it now works after I thought I did all that work for nothing!
A few caveats for anyone attempting this task:
1. It is pretty straightforward, but definitely a job that requires time and patience to get all the little screws back in right.
2. If your truck is like mine, you will have to reach behind the panel and unscrew the speedometer cable to get the cluster out. It screws right back in, but you might have to jiggle it a little to get it to seat right. Nervewracking to the beginner!
3. Be very careful of the guage needles, particularly the small guages (gas, etc.). They are very fragile and it is easy to bend them while moving the cluster around. They bend back (trust me) but I don't think it would be difficult to break one off.
If anyone's interested, the instrument panel bulbs in my 69 F-250 are all the GE-1895 ones that you can get anywhere. Schuck's had some cool looking red and sapphire ones that might be worth checking out if you are into that sort of thing.
