Post steering coupling

I own a 1972 F100 4X4 with a steering coupling that connects the shaft to the gear box that is in terrible shape. Are there any ways to repair the part or replace it other then buying the 200 dollar borgenson replacement shaft. I already checked the Ford parts guy, they don't make it anymore. There is just too much play in the steering and this part is the biggest contributer. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Check out the local scrap yards, you will probably find a better one for a lot less. Or how about a wanted ad in the classifieds of FTE.

If you are talking about the rag joint, you can get those at your local parts store. Does it look like it was rubber?

The rag joints are generally located in the Help section of the auto parts stores. They cost around $6.00.

Thanks for the replies. It isn't a rag joint. It looks more like a slip joint. The salvage yard guy said some dodge trucks have the same coupling and problem and recommended I buy the borgeson replacement shaft. I was hoping to find a fix a lot less expensive. There isn't a rag joint on my truck, just a universal joint, a shaft, this coupling, then the gear box.
