I'm thinking of converting my 67 F100 2WD 390 FMX to a 4 speed manual tranny. What issues would come up? What would be a good choice for a 4-speed? I'm thinking probably a NP435.. would that bolt up to a 390? Will I need to cut out the tranny tunnel and replace it with one from a truck that came with the NP435 originally?
Greg, It is a lot easier to go the other way, st drv. to auto. First you will need a donor truck close by to harvest all the parts and have some idea of how they go. There should be plenty of the trucks with 352s, 360s, & 390s and that tranny to choose from. You will just have to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter.
I would leave it auto, but tis your truck.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
did you end up converting your truck from automatic tranny to standard?
if you did and still have the auto tranny,
i would be interested in purchasing it if it is in good shape.
