good morning i just picked up a fe motor from a 75 f100 xlt.
there is no block casting like the 352, or upside down 105, only a 14.
the #4 plug is broken in the head so i cant check the stroke with a wire. tthe block dos not have the ribbs on the sides. can this be a truck motor? i have to pull the engine yet but just currious what i have I bought the truck for 100.00 and thought it was worth the price just for the parts.

did 390s come with 4barrels stock in that year?

John a calculated guess is it's a 360. There were no 360s or 390s installed in trucks from the factory with 4 barrels. To be sure, you have well over $100.00 in parts.

i looked up the vin code from the drivers door, it crossed to a f100 series two wheel drive 390 auto 4 barrel, Is there a mistake on the decoder sight? i am going to get the vin from home and post it to see what anyone else can decode. thanks

I may be wrong on this, but you should be able to measure the stroke in any cylinder not just #4. I've never done the dowel method although I keep meaning to. It's just I'm pretty sure I got 360's. But my understanding is you remove the plug, place a thin wire or something of the sort straight inside until it hits and then turn the engine over from the crank. Using a marker placed against the wire it should move back and forth from high to low and then just measure the mark of the marker. I offer this explanation so that if I'm wrong someone will point it out to me. I've never done it and wondering if I've got it right.

OIC. Yes, you could get an M code 4V 390 starting in mid ’73 through ’76 but not in a 4X4 or a F100.

Sorry, it’s been a long day.

Those 4bbl 390's are scarce. I've got one in a 76 250 Ranger.
