You have to have glass coverage on your insurance. I have State Farm and over the years have had 6 or 7 windshields done. Never an issue. My Superduty needs one right now I'm just waiting till June. That's when my lake pass expires. I think glass coverage is like $6 a yr... totally worth it.
If the truck was carrying dirt/rocks and lost one, then I would say the company would pay for it,,,but if it was someone just driving along,,and say the rock was in the road, and they hit it, kicking it up,,flying into your windshield,,,,I would have to say your SOL,,thinking that come's under "road hazzard". And if some SOB came after my ride with a hammer, because of a rock or whatever was "in the Road",,,,He would have alot more PROBLEM'S,,, ,, ,, ,,then a Bullseye in his windshield !!
I have already had my windshield replaced, on my 06' F-350,,2450 miles on it,,sitting there and it cracked,,,WTF,, ,,under warranty though.
Full coverage policies cover glass but often times the deductible is not worth even filing a claim. To get "glass coverage", you need to add COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE to your policy. On my 2001 F250 Crew SD , that I just insured last week, liability was $187/yr, and comp coverage was an additional $95. Rates are low because I have it as a recreational vehicle on my poilcy with Liberty Mut. Not even worth it to me to get full coverage. I have never filed a claim in my life that wasn't covered under comp.
A Comp policy covers acts of god, theft, animal hits, road hazzards, etc.... Deductibles are often $50 or $100. Comp claims RARELY make your rates go up. Here in Maine, it is common to get a new winshield under comp every two years or so, and is often required to get a state inspection sticker if chip is in line of sight....
I'm not in insurance, but the rest of my family is so they taught me the ropes, if you don't have comp, I'd look into it,
Ed
OK, well scratch the hammer idea, maybe I should just throw a nice big rock at his windshield just like he did! Anyway it is replaced now, with a new Ford Carlite winshield, and it has the superduty on top.
I guess I don't understand why you need to get even with somebody over something they had no control over. Things like that happen thousands of times a day, it's just part of life, enjoy!
My insurance is erie, from erie penn. and on full coverage they feature free glass replacement with 0 deductable. Havent needed to use it yet, but its there. Bill
Yep Wanabe2, Thats what I made sure they were going to use Ford Carlite when they changed my windshield,,the only thing is I lost my "Built at Kentucky Truck Plant" sticker (something like that).
I had a 95 F-350 the windshield cracked on it,,the cheap dealer put in some aftermarket windshield in it under warranty,,,had no black border on it,,looked like hell,,you could see up under the dash cover from outside,,,never again !
M350 is correct regarding liability issues. You will not receive any reimbursement for a rock coming off of a tire. If the rock originated on the vehicle and fell off the other driver is at fault.
Had my windshield replaced twice last year.
Paid $160 for OEM that cracked at the bottom on the week 3. The installer said it was a rock and after putting my glasses I saw a chip smaller that than 1/64"
Bought USA made aftermarket glass for $120, installed on my driveway and live happy after. Check craigslist adds.
Rocks from other drivers happens all the time, cant go after the other driver for that, you would get yourself in trouble. Unless it was obvious from someone hauling gravel, but getting rude with it might cost you.
Call a glass/insurance company and tell them you have and want original- Carlite - oe glass then in 04 and later it will have the Super Duty logo. Its a good idea to take it to the shop where more than one tech can set your window, especially if its lifted.
Some of the aftermarket glass is not the best quality. Stick with Carlite Guardian or Pilkington.

The sticker is from the build plant of course and they dont come off very well.
The windshield in your 95 was replaced with a older windshield from a 85 or whatever, the glass company probably had one or it was cheaper for them. the earlier models were the same except for the "frit" band. Which could get them in trouble, other than looking like crap the frit band blocks UV rays from breaking down the sealant which is a big safety issue.
