I've been trying to find a reasonably priced late 60's early 70's 460 for in my 79. So far all I have found is a 82 or 83 460, the whole truck for $500. How is the performace from the early 80's? Thanks
Put in a straight up timing gear set and roller chain, along with a good camshaft, and it will do as good or better than the early 460s!
An aluminum intake and good carb will go a long ways to wake it up too.
If the drivetain is good, $500 for a good running 460 and transmission is a great price. Sell off other parts of the truck and you will be ahead.
I bought an '86 F-250 with a 460. I put in a straight up timing gears and roller chain, RV cam, Edelbrock Performer intake and an Edelbrock 1411 750 cfm new carb, and it tweaks tires in my '66 F-100 like nobody's business.
I sold the transmission and a bunch of other parts and made some money off the body.
If it runs well, go for it!
