I am trying to locate the ABS sensor on my '95 Taurus w/ a 3.8L engine. I was performing some work a few days ago, and believe that I may have inadvertently knocked a wire loose since the ABS warning light now comes on. I was working within the engine compartment itself, and was not around any of the wheels. Is there a sensor for each wheel/hub, and a master controller mounted somewhere in the engine compartment? Thanks.
Thanks. After doing some more research, I did notice that each wheel does have a sensor associated with it for ABS, and that there is a master controller somewhere within the engine compartment. I'll check around the master cylinder for a loose connection since I was working around that area. Also, could it be possible that the ABS controller was recalibrating itself, or something similar, while the battery was disconnected for a period of time? Perhaps this is why the light stayed on for a long duration, and then shut off once I was close to reaching my destination this morning. Just a thought.
One other thing to check. I do not know why it will occasionally set an ABS light, but at least on my truck, if I knock one of the vacuum lines off of the A/C controller, it will set a light and or cause other problems like killing cruise, or setting an engine code.
Check all your vacuum lines especially near where you worked. There is/are one or two connectors with 2 or 3 hoses in each that connect to the A/C air handler against the passenger firewall on my truck. I almost always knock one of these loose when I work on that side of the engine.
An easy free fix, if that is what ails you, and no harm done if I am wrong.
This may not be the problem but my windstar will turn on the ABS light if the brake fluid reservoir is low. NOT the brake light, the ABS light. It's happened 3 times now over the course of 10 years.
