last I heard, some people with the racor setup were experiencing leaks from buliding too much pressure....anyone know if they have corrected this?...

Why not use one of the cheap oil catch cans from ebay? They work great for high boosting imports.

A good example it auction # 270010073074 but there are others that are different shapes and some have drains.

my home made kit cost me around $17. home depot heater hose, some worm clamps, and 1/2 pipe to tap into exhaust. no leaks yet. maybe some leak because theres a clog somewhere?

I just did the ccv mod tonight. The first time I did it about a year ago it would leak out of the back of the engine. This time I ran the hose up over the brake master cylinder. I ran it all the way back to the axle and tied it off there so it points down. I drove it about 5 miles to check it and its not leaking this time.

Other than it not getting oil into the Y pipe what else does this mod do. does it improve the fuel mileage. I think I have plenty of power with the pickup in stock form, but I am going to give this a try again, I just dont want to be on a trip and have my engine leak oil.

no, that is all it does. routes oil vapors away from the engine. i think a sticker could give you more horsepower.

Question

I am planning on changing my mod. Mine drops at the transfer case. I installed my BullyDog muffler backwards (fins towards the back. This should put a vacuum on the muffler internally.

Just wondering out load.

Would this be enough vacuum to pull the CCV mist into the muffler and blow it out the tailpipe?

It would sure be easy to tap and thread a 3/4 hole in the top front face of the muffler and with running thinwall conduit following the exhaust system to the transmission crossmember, it would look like a factory install. The rubber hose from the valve cover to the conduit could be connected at the crossmember.

Hey gang, what do you think of this?

Well guys I learned a lot about the CCV mod after I did mine. There is a thread here somewhere regards to the termination of the hose. It said that any type of catch can etc. will create enough restriction to raise the pressure in the engine and cause leaks. I figured Bull***t. I didn't use a catch can or one of the homemade filters, I just ran it into the exhaust through a check valve. The placement and angle of the stinger you weld into the exhaust turns out to be critical. And don't use a check valve. At least it didn't work for me long term. At first there was no problems, but as the heat and crud worked its way into the valve it became brittle and it needed much more pressure to operate. I started getting leaks. I removed the valve and installed a new stinger when I got my new 4" exhaust. I was told the correct placement would not really create a vacuum at idle, but more of a negative escape of exhaust. I placed mine post muffler and at the required 45* angle with the cut part of the stinger facing back away from the flow of gasses. You can look at my gallery, but really can't see much. Anyhow with the engine running and the stinger still out, I could barely feel any escaping exhaust. When the stinger was welded in, I could feel a slight vacuum. All my leaks went away. Hope this makes sense and helps out anyone that has leaks after doing the mod.

I set mine to blow out the exhaust. Tried it with the check valve but that seemed to make the thing leak. Did it without the check valves and not a drop of oil leaks out

I stuck the hose in and I could see the exhaust being more cloudy in the sunlight. Then when I removed it, I could see that the exhaust was clear again. Did this test several times with the same results. Tried puting a cigarette next to the stinger and it didn't seem to do much. I think that with a little pressure from the hose, it sucks the fumes right out of the exhaust.

Thumbs up Push in breather cap

I have mine running down just to the aft end of the left front wheel well. I also found one of the little chrome push in breather caps that goes in the valve covers on V8 gassers and it seems to work fine. Every once in a while I get down there and give it a shake just to make sure there is not any water or oil accumulated in it. Kinda strange seeing that dangling upside down from the hose, but it works. I can see the smoke at idle and smell it occasionally but no biggie....as long as it works I guess...

I did the same but ran it under the frame rail about half way back works good...

I have a CCV mod of the collection canister type that I have sold to over 50 of the TDS forum members and never had one complaint. The problem with the Raccor and the collection canister above is the filter media is to dense and it will cause backpressure on the cranckcase which will cause oil leaks everywhere. If any of you are interested send me a email at walknmiracle@triad.rr.com.
