I didn't see a price anywhere, but looks interesting. However, I intend to build my own knock-out pot with a return to the intake to keep the odors in the motor, as I have en excursion. In a truck the current ccv mod would be fine but for the Ex I want to keep the system closed. Might mount the KO pot on the engine side of the AFE2.
I've heard of a few people that have installed the Racor system for the 7.3 & then had trouble w/ oil leaks & seals blowing out. I'd be careful w/ anything that might increase crankcase pressures especially if the engine's got some blowby to begin with.
I know Racor was looking at a redesigned filter for the 7.3L kit due to this issue. I was going to install one and then did a little research and decided against it.
I made my own system like that. I used a 4" chunk of exhaust pipe agout a 1' long. Welded some caps on the end and 2 90* metal elbows. I made a filter out of some metal sheet that was full of 1/8" or smaller holes. Put them on a steel shaft and spaced them about an 1" apart. Now the oil stays in the canister and the smell gets sucked back through the intake system. No more stinky smell!
Why not just purchase the Racor CCV 3550-02FRD kit. I've had mine for a couple of years now. No problems, and the best part, no oil residue around the intercooler boots.
How bad is the stank? I have a Racor filter still in the box cause after reading here about how to make your own, I'm not sure if I'll use it or sell it on ebay. I was thinking of doing the 4" exhaust pipe section ,running the hose from the doghouse past the rear axle. Think I'll still get the stink?
Holy crap!! I built mine for about $10.00. I used the 4" piece of pipe made a filter for inside and hooked it back up to the intake. The canister catches the oil and the stink goes back through the intake. Works great for me and saved me $247.00 from the sounds of it!
