I have a 1990 E-150 with 5.8 and when I put it in drive it is almost feels like a brake is on. It does not want to take off. Any suggestions on where I should look? Kurt
The very first thing to check is the rear brakes. Often the emergency brake cable will bind due to corrosion or damage. When this happens, you literally do still have the brakes on.
What transmission do you have? Sounds to me like the direct clutches are welded together. That puts the transmission in two gears at once when trying to start off and that feels like the brakes are on.
I jacked the rear end up and both rear wheels turned freely by hand. On the transmission. I found some #'s on it. FTUP-7006-CB. It's a Automatic with Electronic Overdrive.
