Last year I was looking for a 10" x 10" condenser with shroud and fan for another Tig cooler at a surplus bone yard. I located one on a small AC unit, the owner said $15 ok then cut the lines off with a cutter to release the gas and oil. I have 17 cans of R-12, maybe 10 or 12 oz each from Grand Auto I purchased years ago at .79 a can.
On my two 30# tanks of R-12 that are full it states "when empty open valve and vent to atmosphere then break off valve".
This keeps my truck and Delorean's R-12 system full for me.

The Montreal Protocol did not take effect till 92. Up intill then it was legal, and all vehicles manufactured for the 93 model year had 134A as a HFC, the replacement for 12. All refigerants being either a CFC or HCFC were or are being phased out by certain date. http://www.ciesin.org/TG/PI/POLICY/montpro.html
The date of manufacture on the Peterbuilt tractor is August 1993, it has screw on inverted flare fittings on the compressor for R-12 vs quick couplings of R-134a systems.
The small 10 oz cans come up at garage sales and penney markets occasionlly
which means buy and store for future use.
