Hard To Start When Cold
My 1992 f150 4.9 liter is really hard to start when its cold not outside but on the temp hand i can go out in the morning and crank and crank and it starts and runs great a few minutes and check engine pops on and it runs rough black smoke sometimes and the light goes off its fine somtimes it dies completly it does this 2 3 or 4 times once its warm it runs perfect no light no missing nothing and strts right up but after it sets a few hours same thing all over again.what can this be?

pull the engine codes off it. If the check engine light came on the computer spit out a code, you can retreive it by shorting two of the test pin connectors a haynes repair manual will tell you exactly how, or I'm sure someone on the site knows as well. That would be the first step, it could be a whole bunch of things but more information would be helpful.
