I have a 2002 F250 with a cold start problem. It cranks fine, and starts , but runs rough. It has check engine light in gauge cluster. After 3-5 minutes. the check engine light goes out and the roughness clears. You can feel the engine change when the light clears. After the engine is warmed ,it runs fine, but may be a little down on power. Check engine light does not come on again until completely cold.Seems to take longer to clear check engine when it's colder outside temp.Starts fine all day ,once it's ran a few minutes. . Fuel mileage seems to have dropped off a bit. Not sure if this is a Injector pressure valve problem or fuel sensor issue,or what. I don't have a scanner or diagnostic program. Other than 115000 miles its completely stock. It's had nothing done to it but regular oil changes. Any Suggestions?
Thanks Jeff
Jeff, can you post your location? It would be really helpful to get those codes read. One of us may be near enough to you to hook up our AE software and get those codes. Otherwise, finding a shop that can read them for you would be good.
There's some here that can guide you based on your symtoms as well. You've come to the right place. It's been a big help to me.
Would start with what type of oil are you using and how long since the last change?
Also, with the GP system, pretty easy to do some initial troubleshooting to rule that out. Check first to see if you have 12V present at both large poles on the GP relay (not the AIH relay be careful they are neighbors and look alike) at key on, just one pole with key off. If so, move on to ohming the pins at the top plug at the center of each VC gasket. Find a ground and ohm pins 1,2,8,9 on each side. All should read below 2 ohms.
