IAT timing tricker which resistor

First time post: A friend wants to see if he can gain some quick horse power for towing something on a small trip and wants to try the IAT timing tricker. I told him about detonation problems but he still wants to try it. What rated resistor should he get? I saw on a search that a 4.7k 1/2w 5% might work. But if anyone has tried it, what are they using? (97 4.6l)
Thanks.

I tried it thinking I could fool the computer into adding more fuel (richer mix) by making it think the air was cooler than it really was. Didn't make any noticable difference probably because the computer also changes the timing and who knows what else based on the IAT. Also the O2 sensor will detect a richer mix and try to compensate so it is really a bad idea.
