How to find a V10

Going to be in the market soon for a 06 F350. I was wondering if there was a way to search for a truck the way dealer does. I have checked the ford site for local dealers say 100 mile radius but not a v10 to be found. When I bought my 03 the dealer found one but in another state. dealer said it was the only one east of the mississippi. I can have the dealer do it but but trying to save me the bs of the 20 mile drive and hassle of looking at trucks that are not even close to what I told them.

I also have another question as to the 4.10/4.30 gears for those of you with them. I am leaning toward the 4.30ls but not 100% sure. 95 % of my driving is country roads not over 50 mph and I tow nothing over 7K lbs. my current 03 has 3.73ls and was fine with OEM tire but I could tell huge diffrence with the 285s I put on it. any help you could give would be greatly appriciated.

I'm not sure about finding a dealership with the truck you want, but with the type of driving you do I would recommend the 4.30's. I've got them in my 04' and they are amazing. If you could hook one of these trucks up to the world you could make it go round!!

You could ask FTE member PolarBear. He is the site sales expert. Might be able to do that search for you.

However, I would not be surprised, if the search comes back with very few hits. The '06 SD's have not been ordered since March or April...and of those ordered, not many with the V10 in a XLT or Lariat package. Might find a few in the XL package, but probably not.

I would recommend just ordering an '07 SD...and calling it a day. Just my .02

On Edit: Oops...forgot to address your gear question. The 4.30s are the best overall gear for the V10. Most V10 folks...will agree! The 4.30s are a MUST have.

The 4.30's are a must have. It was one of the reason's I traded my '99 as it had the 3.73's. When shopping I wouldn't consider anything else as a gear swap runs about $1500 or so once you've deceided you made the wrong choice.

dmp347 I have been kicking myself in the *** for 3 years now for getting the 3.73's, I think the 4.10's would be fine but don't want to make the same mistake so thinking of going as low as I can. so I was seeking the advise of those of you that have them.

I have an 8K travel trailer and the Truck runs a 4:30 rear end. Tows like a dream at any speed. I've been told the RPM differecne between the 2 gear ratios is approx 200 rpm. Go with the 4:30 for the extra power. You should get decent mileage running at 50 / 55 mph.

I'm leaning toward the 4:30's also for a 2007 sd, V10.It's amazing that if you order the 4:30's from the factory they are only $350, as to $1500 afterwards. It's not too hard of a decision.

I bought my '05 F250 in May of '05. There were two left in New England that had the particulars I was looking for. Dealer ended up going to Cape Cod to get the truck. I wasn't locked in on a color, etc. It was the V10, 4x4, Tow Command, CC options that drove the search. A lot of the trucks up here had the "Plow Package" which I have no use for. Oddly enough there were plenty of diesel trucks available in a variety of configurations. The dealer seemed perplexed that I was insisting on the V10 gasser.

Good Luck!

In my humble opinion, if you get a four door long bed, the 4.30s are the best option on the list. The ever so slightly average MPG hit is made up for, time and again, in BSEG inducing acceleration. Especially if you ever plan a 1 to 2 inch tire diameter increase.

ferelhog its the same here in indiana, of my 2 closest dealers they have 14 F350 in all combinations of cab and beds. however of the 14 trucks they have 12 are psd and the other 5.4. the 6.8 is a bad bad word around the dealerships I go to.

Fred I will be getting supercab short bed (garage won't fit anything longer) however I wish I could go long bed I really like the larger gas tank. The specs I looked at showed the sc sb as bening about 4 inches longer then my currant rc lb.

new truck will have a 6 speed manual I don't mind shifting and like the deep gears in the low and reverse. my 4R100 has been a good tranny but don't like the high rev gear have to goose it way to much to get any kind of weight moving.

the new 18" rims with the 275/70/18 =33.2x10.8 and in my opinon 33" are about as big as you want to tow with so I might go wider but no taller as soon as the tire companies get some mud tires out in that size. thanks for all the imput I am sure I might have more questions before the truck is ordered.

the guys are correct about the 4:30's. i got mine with tens and replaced them already, wrench and few other guys are out towing right now with 4:10's and are not haveing any problem.
it's just this big bad boy shines better with 30's. good luck locating a 06 man. best order up a 07 now while you can and thats if your not in a green state. and your profile states your not.
edit
don't be afraid of the new 5r110 trans it also shines and rev's are not high and the higway about 2 k at 65 .

Your right about the 5r110 it's a good tranny but it's been about 10 years since I had a stick and I got the itch. Have any idea on how long it is from order to delivery?

Smile 4.30

My old truck was 97 250 4X4 with 5.8 4.10s that pulled good. And I got my new SD 250 V10 4X4 v10 with 4.30s in towing, I thought truck with the 5.8 was like was A old truck with a [300 six a good motor] compared to the V10 this V10 is a great motor for towing better mileage than the 5.8 new technoliges are great when they work. The new motors are nice you can't work on them as easy as the old stuff but you work less on them.

All I can say sir is the weigh balance of the Crew cabin and long bed is well worth me having to park out side. I live in Central Texas and the severe weather we get here doesn't screw with Fords excellent paint program quality at all. (remote start in the winter is a dream come true option BTW) (if you live in CC&R gated type community and are not allowed to park in the drive way or street I understand) (actually why we bought country/county property...I hate CC&Rs or HOAs)

You sound like you may be approaching my age... yes, I miss stirring a shifter! In fact I was seriously thinking of a manual with the new 05 but they required(?) the TorqShift with the KR package and other options I wanted...

I LOVE the 5R110w... this is the best auto transmission ever produced in the USA and is much better then some of the Mercedes stuff I had in Europe. And I would not have any other trans tied to the 3v V10 for heavy towing. I can literally hook this beast up to a max weight of 22,874 pounds, fire her up, punch in Tow/Haul mode, drop her into OD/Drive and never play with trans issues from here to Vail and back. (Check out a map for what Lampasas Texas to Vail means)(Double grin)

Your other question... any where from 6 to 12 weeks for ordering a new truck to delivery. Average is in the 8 week range.. the wait is worth every day of the aggravation...biggest grin possible on delivery day knowing that beast was made to your exact specs with only the stuff on her you want... every truck loving man needs this experience!

In fact I was there when she came down off the transporter and know that the 13.4 miles on her were the last any other person would put on her (I would not let the grease monkey prep dude move her to the clean up shop) until I let my wife check the beast out... She did not like the monster long and tall truck so I have to drive every where we take my giant assed White KR SD...Damn the luck!
