I broke the rear right window in my removable top on the 1993 5.8 bronco the other day and was wondering if i could just go to a junk yard and get a window and install it myslef. I dont think its worth getting a used top because the one i have right now is real nice. I just want to know if anyone out there has installed one of these windows before....
The answer is YES, you can. The gasket comes free of the window as you may have noticed by removing the lockstrip (chrome on some models black on others) that runs around the perimeter of the glass. You must first remove the corner pieces then the strips can be started at one end and pulled out of the gasket. The old glass can be pulled (in your case the pieces of old glass) from the gasket once the lockstrips are removed.
The install requires care and patience as the glass must be installed with the gasket in the window frame in the top. (In other words you can't install the glass into the gasket and then put the whole thing into the top). Once the new glass is fully seated in the gasket the lockstrip is pressed back into the trough in the gasket and the corner pieces snapped in and you are done. No sealers, no screws or other hardware, the lockstrip secures the glass in the gasket. Note: its a very tight fit and plastic putty knives come in very handy when trying to work the edges of the gasket around the glass. Try to avoid sharp tools for installing as they will cut into the gasket.

Gurahl, aftermarket sliders are available from C.R. Lawrence (sp?), I think they run over $200.00 for a set. But you can use your factory stationary window gasket with them. The problem with factory sliders is that you need to use the gasket that comes with those. I have a set of factory sliders but no gaskets, so, no sliders installed. Yet. I'm still looking. But if you were to find a set of factory sliders from a junkyard, be sure to take the gaskets with you. And if you find two sets, sell me the other set of gaskets.
