A couple of weeks ago my water pump let go while I was out of town and had to get it repaired asap. I took it to a ford dealer which replaced it. Now I find that the thermostat housing is leaking by the gasket. I tried to remove the 3 bolts, but just broke all my sockets instead. I had put in the 203* thermostat a few months ago and I did not have any trouble removing them, torqued them down to 20-30 Nm.
Here is my question, Is the thermostat housing (the part where the thermostat sits in) part of the water pump? Dealer said that it is not. My parts guy said it is. I would like the dealer to remove the bolts, but they said they did not remove this part to replace the water pump.
The thermostat housing is supposed to be replaced when the water pump is. I just replaced my water pump and the housing was so rusty, I was embaressed that it was on my truck. I wound up buying the billet one. I think that they put a new one on, and probly put a new thermostat in also.
in order to change the water pump either they did switch the stat housing over to the new pump or the new pump came with a stat and housing already on it (never seen one come that way) so either way if its leaking it the dealers problems cause its not sealed up correctly!
I had problems with mine I heard on FTE about the old stat housings are junk you have to replace them with a new one when doing the stat,
I tried when i did mine to reuse the old one and it did leak even that i used some good rubber gasket stuff,
So I ended up replacing mine,
Now im wondering if they might of cranked it down on there to try and get it to seal...
I have the new 203* t-stat and aluminum billet housing. They probably used the old gasket. They should have used a new gasket and charged me the $8. Was already above $600, whats another $8...
