My friend has a 2000 F250 7.3. His oil pan has rusted out. Oil is bleeding through. Ford said the motor had to come out. The job would cost $3000. Is there an easyer way to do the job? Any idea's?
if it's bleeding and not just seeping, there would be no good way to patch them. it seems as if the oil pan is a stupid idea on these trucks. come on make them a little more thicker god! the oil pan on our '95 is rusting out, and mine had paint bubbles on it. yes they are right, the engine has to come out to get to the pan.
I just replaced my Trans pan with the Mag-Hytec pan. Man this pan is impressive. It took two hands to hold it up to put the screws in. The stock trans pan is made much better than the stock oil pan.

mine is starting to get paint bubbles on it too. do you think sanding it and pinting it would solve the problem or maybe even the do it yourself bedliner or does the oil pan get too hot?

yes, it would be nice if Mag-Hytec made ENGINE oil pans...
NAPA sells a fuel tank patch kit that is basically a fiberglass and resin patch kit. I used it to fix my oil pan two years ago. It rusted through next to the drain plug. I completly drained the oil and then cleaned the bottom of the pan with solvent and then denatured alcohol so there was no oily residue. It takes a long time for all the oil to drain out. Waiting overnight with the oil plug out works well. Applied the patch, sanded and painted the rest with POR-15 later on and it's still holding today.
I have decided that sanding and painting is just regular yearly maintenance on my poor oil pan ! Last year I sanded out all bubbles , cleaned it up real nice and found more bubbles this year! So I sanded and painted again, next year I may use a rust inhibitor as well as a good coat of paint like I have done on my rear diff cover. A neighbour asked me why I was doing that, and I told him because it was built ford tough!
