Problem Listings....

Hi all,

Just pondering this thought...I only have about 3,800 miles on my '04...it's a weekend toy for me. I have not had any mechanical problems...yet. I have only had the 05 E15 reflash done, and have not had a single problem with it since then, or before. It still seems to run very strong, but I do not have guages to say about total boost lost, etc...But, it does run great...

I keep reading on this and other sites about the large number of problems...particularly with the 03-04 6.0 motors...from all ranges of mileage and all types of usage. I may be reading into this, but it seems to me that, in reality, "MOST" of the '04 motor problems have been on motors that have been driven harder, and/or had tuners installed.

It would be interesting to see some type of listing of all the 'problem motors' with the legit causes of the problem posted by each...

Just a thought....NOT looking to create any problems, just interested in the percentages....I love my truck/motor, and I think the percentages of good motors are going to be ahead....

Take care,

JJ

Good luck with this one jjgi5150. Many opportunities for flamers here. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

For my truck, I haven't had any issues to speak of at almost 30,000 miles and over two years.

i think it would be quite impossible to get a percentage(though it would be nice) about the 03/04 PSD. to many varibles and also not everyone would admit that they were running tuners and such things like that. even down to proper maintenence would effect(what, i have to change fuel filters?)

as for me, my 2004 6.0 has 34k on it with zero probs.

KW and bf,

You're both right with your responses...I just thought it would be a good opportunity to run more of "list"...not a gripe about the service, dealer, or at Ford, or ????...

Just more right to the point, such as "04 6.0 with two bad EGR valves", '04 with one frayed wire harensss", '03 with three bad oil leaks"...etc.... Sort of a real life top ten on the main problems folks have encountered. It would require some honesty...but hey..just thought it could prove interesting...

'04 F-350 DRW C-Cab Long Bed FX 4X4 Lariat 40,000+ miles, bone stock
towing an aluminum three-horse slant stock trailer (5th wheel hitch)
Build Date: 03/04/04
1) wiring chafe - #7 injector - 10,012 miles
2) Recall 05B29, 05S34 - 25,057 miles
3) Replace EGR, EBP Sensor and Pigtail - 27,817 miles
4) Change rear axle fluid, add friction mod (vibration when backing) - 27,817
5) Recall 05E15 - 29,975 miles
6) Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor and connection - 35,588 miles
Stanadyne at every fillup since day one.

My Service Advisor has advised that all the head gasket replacements at his shop have been on trucks that have either been chipped or pulled heavy loads every day as a matter of routine.

Hope this helps

I'm glad you asked this. I was wondering this myself but I wasn't sure how to narrow it down..ie, tuners, p.m., fuel, ect. I thought certain problems could find a common thread, (no pun intended).

As far as my 05 EC W/ MBRP -cat, no fuel additives, mataince done by the book, syn. oil, avg. mileage 200 a week half city half highway, 15-18 mpg. So far so good.
