Exhaust shop story....

Okay I took my 1992 Ford F-150 302EFI to a local exhaust shop and I wanted the guy to hook up the pipe that is coming from the catalytic converter to my new shortie headers that I installed but he says that he has to order a y-pipe to connect to the headers I would think he could just fabricate that pipe up... Anyways I drove off from the muffler shop and still have open headers, I mean I like the loud sound, but it's definitely not riding with the law that's for sure. I just want to get this pipe connected up and get riding along smoothly again....!!!

Sure, he could have made you a Y pipe, any exhaust guy worth the $$ should be able to do that.

Once the Y pipe comes in, look it over for kinks and bad bends before its installed. No reason to put a restrictive part right after your new headers.

I agree that any shop should have been able to fab a pipe, but usually with shorty style headers, you don't need y-pipe modifications, they usually bolt in place of the old manifolds. Do your headers require a larger connecting pipe? Open headers do sound pretty sweet though.

the pipe that goes into the headers is to small of diameter and the driver side doesn't even match up.... Exhaust guy will have to rebend the pipe and route it so that it does match up with the header.... I was kinda hoping the rest of the exhaust would have bolted up like I keep reading but apparently not. I definitely need to get this done. Saturdays is really the only time I have off unless I take a vacation day to get this fabrication of the exhaust done.

The funny thing is it is probably easier and quicker for him to make the pipe then trying to order one to fit right. Obviously it must not be a great exhaust shop

Well, I wouldn't go back there. My friend has a muffler shop and fabed up my y-pipe in... 10ish minutes. That guy is either clueless, doesn't want your business, or even lazy.
