I checked around and called a few places up and now I'm not sure how do go about doing this. My exhaust is getting really bad. I wanted to start from the cat back and work my way up to a new y pipe and headers. I know the bassani and gibson kits are good and about 300 bucks. I called the local muffler shop which is a very good shop. They said 240 for a magnaflow muffler and aluminized cat back with a tip. My question is how do these kits and the muffler shop get 3" pipe to fit the y pipe? The reason i ask is i am thinking about getting the bassani y pipe down the line and I don't want to have a restriction in the pipe if they use some sorr of reducer or something and i don't want to have it redone again when i get the y pipe. I know the bassani stuff is all ment to go together, I called up and the tech guy couldn't really tell me how they go together at the y pipe. Also should i spend the extra money on stainless? What do you guys think go with the shop or the kit?
Well on my 1990 Bronco. I have a 3" high flow magnaflow exhaust. I lOVE it. It only cost me $400! I went and looked under my truck and what was done is, I had the cats replaced with bigger high flow ones and when it connects to the Y-pipe it seems that the exhaust gradually got smaller until it matched up to the stock 2 1/2 inch exhaust. It goes from 3" to 2 1/2" in about a 3 inch area!!! So that's how mine was done. HOPE THIS HELPS!
If you plan on the Y pipe later, just save up. You may also want to get headers while youre at it. Thats what I did. I bought the Bassani Street Thunder package for my 96. Plus, if you buy it all at once, you normally get a discount .
did you get it from Bassani directly? When I talked to the guy at Bassani he told me i would get the kit cheaper from one of there dealers instead of directly from Bassani
That price for there x pipe is way cheaper then anything i have seen. thanks for the link. How do you like the sound of there mufflers? I don't want anything to loud.
I called and checked the website they have them listed. I swear they were not there last night when I looked. I was reading some reviews last night, there were a people saying that it was to loud and it has a deep droning resonation inside the truck. Did you notice that?
I wish I could answer that for you. The system is still sitting in my garage (the salting of the roads in my area is atrocious, so I held off until spring is fully here. I think its going on within the next 3 weeks). You might want to ask Greystreak92, I know he has his installed. I assume that it will have a pretty loud rumble (when I look through the muffler, its two openings on the inside, with perforated material, and I can see a bit of sunlight on either side, so I know it flows a hell of a lot better). As for the droning...I hope not. All the more reason to buy a better stereo.
Might I ask where you read these reviews? Id like to see what others say about what Im about to put on. Also, I looked back through the posts, and saw that you said you dont want anything too loud. Well, here an option...get the bassani y pipe (and headers...not to put ideas in your head ), and get a Gibson catback. Ive run Gibson before. They give you a low rumble, and from what I hear, they are the quietest in the cab. It was quiet in the truck I ran it on (01 F-150). Just an idea.
Heres the website i found those reviews. I thought about having the Gibson cat back and Bassani y pipe too. I asked the guy at proficientperformance and he recommended keeping it all the same brand to be sure they will all fit together.. Although in theory they should all fit together since there all made to fit like stock parts. I am thinking about doing it that way anyway, but if something doesn't work out I will be kicking myself
The only thing you would have to worry about is how the muffler attaches to the Y pipe. Most use reducer pipes. You could get a muffler shop to get you a 3" section of piping. As for the Bassani package, the muffler attaches right to the Y pipe (at least that what it looks like when I fabbed mine together on my garage floor). If you want a low rumble, get the Gibson. I was a bit disheartened when I read those reviews.
part of the reason FOrd reduced the diameter was to create backpressure
this in turn heats the catalytic converter to cut down on emissions...
get the cat back system without worries....this is how the bronc's exhaust system was made....
the only other way to run a 3 inch diameter was for ford to install two inline cat converters....imagine the executives cost projections as opposed to a 10 cent reducer....
