My front diff has been craped out for a few weeks now....drivers side hub wrecked, No 4by4, Wheel bearings groaning and moaning. Im tired of it
What do you think is the best and strongest action to take? meaning do a complete rebuild, With the dynatrack servicable hubs etc.. Problem is with this upgrade is ...im not really sure if its worth the money...cause well I dont know if the Diff in my 2000 f350 Is a Dana 60 or a 50.... Im sure its not worth spending a bunch of cash on a dana 50, when i drive the truck hard and iam running 42inch tires. Some insight on this would be great...
Also i have another option i have been thinking about.... I can get my hands on a 1979 High pinion dana 60 front diff... Maybe this would be a good swap ?
question is though would my 2000 front brakes be able to bolt up to this old dana 60?????
you have a dana 50. the 2002 and up superdutys have dana 60,s so if you can find one at a juck yard ('02-'04) than you will have the stronger diff and it will bolt right in. that front axle with the fully dynatrack set up is about as good as you can get short of custom built unit
ps. make sure its out of a truck, i have heard that the X,s all used dana 50,s up front
I grenaded a front locker Friday night. Today I got lucky and scored a 60 from an 03 350 that is going to auction. The only thing I have to do is the swap. The obs 60,s have a different width between the spring purches.
are you just swapping in the new one or are you building it up? if i were you i'd have new axleshafts, hub lockers, differential and a diff cover with temp. gauge.
Hmmmm is this true about only the 02 and up front diffs are dana 60's
maybe i can find one from a wrecker but ...it wont be cheap.. Im wondering though whats the best option for a dana 60 front diff.... cause im guessing the 02-05 dana 60's still have the crapy non servicable hubs? Like i was thinking about that dana 60 out of a 1979 ... probably has the good style serviceable hubs and 35spline axles. Iam i going to have problems with bolt pattern and lug thread pitch? iam guessing my brakes, backing plates caliper mounts etc, would bolt onto it from my dana 50...... who has experiance with this??????????
another option i have heard about is guys swapping out the front diff from f450 trucks.... Something about it being more strong then a f350 one .... anyone heard of this claim???
The 450 should have the super 60. I don't know what is different. The older 60 will not fit without moving the springs and none of the parts are interchangable. The 02 and up 250's, and 2k and up 350 drw will have 60's. Yes they still have one piece hubs.
I have decided the next time mine goes out something else is going in place, the problem I see with the newer diffs is the balljoints are still there even after the dynatrac swap stuff, and I have already had to replace mine, even with basically stock tires and no hard wheelin with the truck. But of coarse I have put greasable units in place of hte factory so maybe that won't be as much of an issue now.
Kevin I know the 79 D60s are a different width have you ever measured the early 90s F350 KP D60s? I know the bolt patterns are different but I have a chance to buy a 92 F350 service truck with a D60 front, and not sure what the rear is but atleast a D70 with a locker in it for under $2000 and kinda thinking that might make a good deal to swap that stuff over.
