From: Alvin, Texas.
1999 Ranger = 4.0L OHV v6.

I'm sure some owners of trucks with that specific drivetrain will chime in soon enough.

I have a 99 Ranger 4.0L X-cab two wheel drive auto. Currently I have 120,000 miles on her and here is what I have done to it as far as maintenance and repair:
1) Shocks (normal maintenance)
2) Serpentine belt (normal maintenance)
3) Brakes and wheel bearings(normal maintenance)
4) O2 Sensor
5) Tires (normal maintenance)
6) Upper Radiator Hose (normal maintenance)
7) Plugs and plug wires (normal maintenance)
8) Regular oil and transmission oil changes (normal maintenance)

That is the extent of my repair and maintenance costs. Most of my miles are highway miles. I get 18-20 MPG on the highway. I have never checked it for mileage in just town driving. I haul canoes and kayaks on it and have a cap and the bed loaded with camping and fishing gear.

I would buy another in a heart beat (once this one wears out - in another 150,000 miles!) I only wish Ford would sell the diesel Ranger in the states.

The Pulse Vacuum Hublock (PVH) 4x4 systems on '98-'00 Rangers/B-Series have been prone to problems. When the hubs/system fails, most people decide to just lock the hubs in permanently and leave the function of 4x4 engagement solely to the transfer case (this is more or less how it works on the newer Rangers right out of the factory). A few people have been able to get their hands on Brazilian-made AVM hubs which are essentially auto-to-manual conversion kits for the PVH-equipped trucks.

O2 sensors on the Ranger are, under normal operation, a part designed to last the life of the vehicle.
