OK so it isn't tomorrow but I have the info off of the rating plate. It reads as follows; WB/131, color/X, model/F253, body/h4, trans/G, axle/C8, GVW/ 08100, cert. net h.p./156, rpm/4000, dso/74. Any info would be great.
Sorry it took so long, trying to play catch up and yesterday my Bronco was hit so it has been one thing after another.
:-X23 Thanks again for all of your help.

Sorry dj, had a busy week.
Well I'll be! After all that, it still does not tell if it's a Contractor Special or not. Just like you can't tell if it's a Camper Special or something else from all that data.
I was assuming the D.S.O. would have a special order number there besides the district code. Looks like they were a regular production option (RPO). The district code is Seattle, where it was ordered.
One question, the model code F253 means a 6,100 GVW rating. On the GVW in the rating plate, maybe it's a 06100 instead of a 08100. Sometimes the sixes look like eights in the stampings. I thought the highest GVW was 7,500 for '69.
The axle code is for a Dana 60, 3.73 gears, locking, 5,200 lbs.

That was the plate off of my '72. It was in response to your question "What is the color code?". I have not been able to get to the farm to get his rating plate info. Sorry for the confusion I have been going in a thousand different directions at once. My wife says I have been talking to her in shorthand alot latly. I have to go out there today for the arson investigation and if I have time I will grab that info. On the rating of 8,100, I am positive that it was clearly an eight. Mine is an Explorer (72). Can you tell what color it is?
Thank you and sorry for the mix up.

Yeah, you're right. 8100 GVW was the max. in '72.
As far as the X, I'm not sure but check this out:

I have been looking for the color of it for at least 15 years and found nothing:-X23
it is the same color as the mustard yellow one in the 72 brochure but I can't find any proof that links it to a name. I think it may be "Prairie Yellow" but I am not sure. Thank you Million for your input also. I guess that I don't need the color to get it matched up but I would love to know what it is called.
Thank you again,
dj
