Here are some questions I emailed to her and theier resposnses in ( ).
1. Are you using a cordless phone? (Yes)
2. Do you have "Call Waiting"? (No)
3. Have you tried using a different phone? (Yes)
4. Does this happen with both phone lines (business/home)? (Yes)
5. I was asked if you have any reason for your phone to be tapped. I said maybe. "no snswer"
6. Who set up your wireless router? (I did with Linksys help)
7. I was also told that if your wireless router isn't properly set-up, you may
be giving out free internet service to your surrounding area. (I put on a security block with linksys.)
She's going to call Linksys tomorrow.

Linksys has an excellent help desk. They worked with me for over an hour one time. My guess is that there is some interference from her cordless phone. Simple fix is to buy a new phone with a different frequency (2.4 GHz).
Might be as easy as changing the channel on her phone or router. She shouldn't need to go to a completely different band, (like 5.8 and 2.4). There's enough separation between channels that any problems should take care of themselves with a simple hardware or software change, even within the same band.
The reason the phone tap came to mind, is I lived with a girl whom, I later found out, put a recording device on her ex-boyfriends phone, in order to monitor his calls.
I suppose if a radio transmitter device, that only transmitted during calls, could potentially interfere with a wireless network if it was close enough.
Has she actually used a non-wireless phone, preferrably one that is from outside the house, like a friend's or neighbor's to eliminate the wireless phone and possibly a discreet device.
A "security block"... Hmmm, it still needs to be checked. The only good way that I know is to set the MAC address of the devices that are allowed to communicate. The security codes don't work. Have her check for those open jacks and cable lines also. Every one that is not being used must be terminated. I have seen houses and apartments where wires have just been cut off and shoved back inside a wall.

Wireless routers/cards run in the 2.4 GHz range, not 5.8. My Linksys WRT54GS runs from 2.412 to 2.477 GHz (14 channels with a third party firmware). Like Howdy said, have her try a different channel on the router. If that doesn't work, maybe she could borrow a 900 MHz or 5.8 GHz phone to see if it solves the problem. Good luck.
Actually I'm pretty sure wireless G runs in the 2.4ghz range and wireless A runs in the 5.8ghz range. Not too many wireless A routers out there though. Linksys actually has a pretty cool wireless A+G setup that uses both at the same time to increase the speed.
My guess is it is the wireless phone. Have her turn the phone on in another room far away from the computer and see if she has the problem. It is usually a good idea to have a corded phone at your desk instead of a cordless if you are using a wireless network for just this reason.
I have heard of other things causing interference with wireless networks also. Microwave ovens being one of them.
