Grille Repair

Hi Guys
I was out looking at a 1969 F100 Ranger, and I noticed that although the rest of the grille is perfect their is one pices of bar about 6-7 inches long that is missing and since I have a beat up 1967 grille I was wondering how hard it would be to cut a bar out of the 67 grille and install it in the 69, I want to know because the body is next to perfect on the 69 and the guy only wants 400 dollars for it
Any help would be great thanx

I am not for sure but if the bar that is missing is right in the middle, then hat may be where the Ranger emblem mounts onto it.

Unfortunately I think it would look like HELL because of the seams that would be created. Are both grilles aluminum?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Jul-02 AT 08:49 PM (EST)]Yes Jim both grilles are aluminum, but even if it looks like hell it would be better than a hole right? also I forgot to add that this bar is missing out of the top right corner of the grill
Thanx

One of these days I want to make an entire custom grill. Everything from the the part that goes on the front fenders, the headlight doors, etc. I would build it out of thick enough metal so it would not dent if a large bug flys into it.

I was thinking of making a custom tube grill for my '71. But wasn't sure exactly how to do it. Would really like to find a nice 67 or 68 to put in it. But hey I guess we can all hope.

I saw a demo for a product called alumaweld at a show once and bought some. The guy used a propane torch with mapp gas and welded up a hole in a soda can.

I think Eastwood sells these types of kits. I'm pretty sure you would ruin the coating and have to re-clearcoat it but you should be able to get a good final product.

Otherwise a rad shop might be able to do it for you, I had one weld up some alum pipe once and it came out real nice.

Steve, I guess no hole is better than a hole in the grille. It would also buy you some time to look for a complete grille. Be patient, I bought a really nice aluminum grille on Ebay not long ago. Also check this site's classified ads and local salvage yards.
