Thirty miles from Laredo is a small town. It has no sewer system, no water system, no electricity, no asphalt, no A/C. no refrigeration, but the folks there are great. Some of the people live in houses made from auto parts like several hoods and doors wired together. During the cold months they collect plastic sheeting to keep the cold out while the fire in the middle of the dirt floor keeps the kids warm. Some live in cardboard houses and are always on the lookout for more cardboard to replace the old especially after a rain. And then there are the well-to-dos, they live in wood houses. A few of these houses actually has a wood floor and not dirt. The meat that these folks eat is dried on the fence- any fence and if available, they will salt it. The salt also keeps the flies off. Once dried, it looks identical to old road kill- grey and leathery looking. They raise their own veggies as there is no store, no corner convinience store, nothing. They live like it was here maybe 150 years ago in the country. You are on your own there. No doctor, no ambulance, no drug store, no computer store, no phone, no gas station. So when you talk about throwing these folks in prison, that's like throwing YOU in the Playboy mansion for a year and then taking you home. If you never knew, this is why these folks are here. They send money back home. It makes life tolerable for the family back home. For the most part, these are some hard working folks that just want to live. And for this we want to nuke them? We want to make these folks criminals? Yeah, there is another side to this like the druggies and the ones that are just out for an easy ride. These are the people we need to target and not be gentle with how we handle them. The folks over here that just want to work, we need to find a way for them to be here- legally. All of this immigrations stuff is part our fault, not just theirs.

No matter what their intentions or reasons for coming here, they are criminals. No amount of grass cutting or house framing or crop picking is going to change that. You're right in that it is partially our fault, well actually it's the spineless politicians in Washington. There seems to be no desire to enforce the laws that affect our quality of life (immigration) but God help you if you kick your dog and the neighbor reports it. This country has become a country full of castrated, apologetic, pathetic wusses. There should be no amnesty for the illegals that are here nor the children that they sneak here to have. It sounds cold, but we HAVE to make it so unpleasant for them that they no longer have any reason to sneak in. No social services, no jobs, no nothing. The businesses that hire them should be fined and/or shut down without any thought as to whose campaign they contribute to. It's going to reach critical mass where people in this country hate anybody who is Hispanic whether they are legal citizens or not. I, personally, do not want to see that happen.

sorry, illegal is illegal, my wife came here legally, so can everyone else.

i don't care what their intentions are, good or bad, what, are we suppose to invite every poor person in the world to america to live?

if things are so hard in their own country, then they need to do something about it...lets say revolt or something like that, but why go through the danger of revolution when there is a country to sneak into?

make them into criminals? i didn't hold a gun to their head and tell them to illegally cross the border, they did it on their own accord.

just want to work? heck, i would like to go to sweden and "just work" but the swedish gov won't let me, maybe i should sneak in and protest?

how we expect to do this and that in the world when we can't even establish a secure border in our own country? and is it wrong to say a soverign country wants to secure its border?

I've heard this argument that we can't possibly send 11 million illegal aliens back to Mexico. Let's set up a website for people to volunteer to get people back to Mexico. If they'll first secure the border, I'll be glad to haul 7 of them back each month. I could haul 84 in one year. All we need is a few hundred thousand volunteers and we can go back to driving down the interstate without getting behind a painting contractor's van hauling 6 illegals to their next job doing 50 mph in the fast lane.

washington's not spineless, they're COMPLICIT!

all i've heard since 9.11.2001 is security, security, security. homeland security, anthrax letters, code orange, code red, terrorists, patriotism act, etc. and it's all a load of crap. if they'd meant any of it the mexicans would have stopped as of 9.11.2001, and your last line of defence wouldn't be a bunch of vigilantes in lawn chairs.

here is a picture by mr. robert crumb who expresses very much how i feel about immigration and reminds me why my family left europe.

"life won't be worth living in a land overcrowded with hordes of people who never had a gasp of the concept of individual freedom to begin with"... think about that

and i agree with everything you say. fine businesses that hire illegals, then make them pay every illegal two weeks salary, and bus fare back to mexico for him and his family. and they don't get their place of business back until every one of their employees is a citizen or otherwise legally documented.

once you free your mind and accept 'illegal' for what it really means, i.e. people who don't belong here, everything else falls into place

and i know i'm an immigrant and that makes me a hypocrite. but i'm legal and i speak the language here and if i had become an american instead of a canadian i'd be on the southern border with a big sign reading "WELCOME AL QAIDA" just to embarass those liars in washington cuz they're full of it.

and a couple of those cuz just hearing about it makes me sick.

andym,
you are so right. Greed is going to destroy this great Country. We are allowing illegals to rule the roost.

Mexico is not doing anything about their people coming over to the USA, because they get the money back to Mexico. Mexico will take over the western part of the USA, and the end of this Country will be next. What gets to me is that our Government is not doing a damn thing to prevent this.

jimandmandy,
I lived in Los Angeles in the 60s, and know what you are saying. Things sure have changed since then.
